I'm new to the C5's (got a '99 a while back) and have a chance to pick up a "98 parts car and I wondered if most parts would work on my '99. What is interchangable, body parts, interior, mechanical? I think they are pretty much the same but if body panels are different it might not be worth getting it.
Thanks, that's what I was hoping for. I have another project for the drivetrain and was hoping body panels were bolt on to the '99, just in case. The other spare parts will be nice also.
Not sure if buying a parts car that is a different year is worth the effort. There were a bazillion C5s made so finding parts is easy except for what 8VETTE7 said and you are buying a car where those may not interchange. If it were me, I would use the money to try and locate those hard to find electronic items.
With the exception of my C5 all my other cars were very low production from a less than 100 to only a few thousand. In all those cases I bought all the NOS parts I could find. When I got the C5 I just bought a few items like computer modules and SWPS so when they are no longer available like the early cars I (or whoever gets my car) will have spares.
The reason I am intersted in this car is it is local and the same color so if the '99 got bumped it would be bolt on with hopefully no repaint and the interior is also the same color. The power train would go into another project so the PCM would go with it. From what 8VETTE7 said if it was built after 12/15/98 possibly the ecbm and swps will also work. Thanks for the help.
