Default dr.color chip

put this here instead of ''car care'' because i suspect it has more ''participants'' . i use this stuff on wifes silver daily driver and find that while it helps a lot with chips and color is satisfactory it does not '' fill'' the chip so depth is brought up to level of factory paint . thought maybe someone could correct my method our at least offer some advice . thanks once again . . . peace

I just started using dr. color chip on my wife's car too. Works much better than my other feeble attempts to touch up chips. I think it takes more than one application to level it. I'm ready to order some for my red C5 too. Works good, and very easy. Lot's of videos on their website.

On deep chips, I had to do over and used an old credit card instead of my thumb. Worked great.

I find is the trick is to drop paint right before the chip, then swipe cause it moves it into the chip and fills in properly.

I've filled some deep chips using Dr. Color chip. I place one drop into the chip then let it dry overnight, repeat each day until the touch up paint is slightly higher than surface. Use 800, 1000, 2500 grit paper to sand smooth. Polish out sandpaper marks and wax. Takes time and patience but results are great. I find the Dr. Color chip colors to be almost perfect, at least for my LeMans blue color.

Good tips. Putting on multiple coats would be the way I would do it.

I used the repeat process myself, but found that the "chip" was almost always only in the clear coat, so I've just used clear to fix them...

I wish people would actually post some pictures about this product but it sounds like it works well.

I tried finding a shop that would let me get some small portions...didn't get much help... and NOBODY wanted to mess with fixing the chips..
So, I got a rattle can of enamel and sprayed some in the cap... took a toothpick and blobbed it in the prepped chip... sand, blob, sand blob till it was nice and flush and then buffed, polished, and waxed... took several apps to get it to where you can't tell I ever had a chip...
these are the products I used to do my chip repair, and it worked for me...

I did about 20 of these chips on the hood... this way

I tried to JUST take off the blob and NOT sand any deeper than the original clear coat deepth... which is impossible... so, I tried to take as LITTLE as possible off while sanding to flatten and feather the blob... to make it disappear... good lighting and lots of patience required.
I used 1500 grit sandpaper and the wizards compound... you can actually use the compound on a rag and your finger to buff enough to see if you have the chip filled or not....
When I say sand... it's really more of a scuff... VERY VERY lightly... tiny removal at a time...
Final results...

Yeah I know, but obviously they aren't going to let anything on their site that isn't near perfection.

I would like to see some average attempts from an average person too
