At first I posted a link to someone trying to sell a convertible C5 as a Z06, turns out it is really a Z06 converted to a convertible, 2001,salvage title, 28k miles $15,000
Yea its something I wouldn't do myself. I actually think he has a thread in here somewhere on how he did it. But its been a long time. He said he got it with a salvage title so he didn't feel bad cutting it up.
As I posted on the other related thread, this car has a rebuild title from 2006, five years old. So at some point it was totaled. To compare that to a current situation, think about how bad you'd have to hurt a 2011 Z06 to total it. That's about $40K to $50K worth of damage in today's dollars. IMHO, I'll pass on a car hurt that bad.

The car was converted to a convertible because it probably was rolled.

Plus why wold you pend $15K on a salvage titled C5?
i was thinking if the roof is just cut off the body may flex too much [most verts have extra braces to add stiffness] causing frame damage.
The conversion is not unusual. Caravaggio did one for a guy local to me. Very nice ride. Be Sure the car does not flex with the top removed off a notchback.
One could take a vert and clone it into a Z06 but it would still be a clone. Having a Z06 with a ragtop makes it pretty exclusive. Might not be the bees knees for all but variety is the spice of life.

Frame on the C5 (and presumably C6/C7) is identical between vert and various flavors of coupe: they designed it stiff enough for a convertible and then added the top(s). If the top was a stressed member, none of the removable 'targa' tops would have lasted this long.

The factory should have offered convertible C5 Z06s! Or at least offered the Z06 engine in the standard C5 convertible and coupe!
I have always read that there is no additional bracing in the C5 convertibles. Has anyone heard of any additional bracing? If so--where is it located?
There is an additional brace behind the seats on the vert. Coupes don't have it because of the open cargo area.
Z06/FRC have the frame features of both the Coupe and Vert.
That's why they are 12% torsionally stiffer. If he cut off the bar across the roof, theoretically it should still be as stiff as a vert.
But I think putting Z06 wheels, springs, shocks, and sway bars on a vert along with a few bolt ons to get up to LS6 hp/tq levels makes better sense than hacking up a Z06.
But I suppose it doesn't matter if this Z06 was already totaled.
