first off I hate the wagon wheels. For about 9 months now, we have had to deal with them on our c5. While at Carlisle last weekend, I found some magnesium wheels, that had a few chips on them, and was missing a center cap.. I offered the guy 150.00 for the set, and he took the offer.. I purchased 2 cans of black plasti dip, and had them installed today.. I could not be any happier..
I'm on my second set of wheels since the original wagon wheels. I think what you did works on your combination. Took me 4years to get my CCW's and I think I will be satisfied for a while.
$150 for a set of mag's is better than a "good" deal; and they're a major improvement over the wagon wheels.
However, I'm an oldster and prefer mag wheels to look like magnesium.
I agree with some of the other comments about black wheels - they kinda "pull the weight down" - draw your eyes down - and you lose sight of the great lines of the car. On my silver FRC I did not want chrome nor did I want black - I'm hoping the "black chrome" I got don't "pull you down" too hard - we'll see what happens when they are installed on Sat. On a white car its tricky - chrome might look better...
I'm not a big fan of black, but against a white car, the color of the magnesium wheels just wouldn't cut it for me. IMHO, on a white C5 the black wheels look good and you got them at an incredible low price so enjoy.
I was looking for some y2k wheels at Carlisle but every set, people wanted crazy money for them.. I love the magnesium wheels. The thing I love most is they are a factory wheel, and a rare wheel. Eventually I may have them powder coated, or painted, but for now the plasti dip looks good enough. I would have left them the stock color, but each wheel had a chip on the rim.
For me black is black regardless of the wheel. Not trying to be a "hater" but for me black really loses the definition of the wheel in pictures, they almost get lost.
But if you like it, who the heck cares what we think!
