Default Vehicle History

Does anyone know of a way to check your vehicle history based on the vin from before the car was sold? My 98 convertible is signed by David Hill and Jim Cafaro on 3-28-98. I'm wondering if this car might have been in some shows or exhibitions or presentations before it was sold. Thanks

CarFax will show how many times it has been sold and will show in which State and city. Contact the DMV in that state and request information. Also try googling the VIN number. Low serial number?

May try contacting the NCRS and see if they can contact David Hill or Jim Cafaro. I attended a group meeting with David Hill in July, in Denver, when David attended the NCRS National Convention. The NCRS has his contact information. He may remember the date or have a notebook that would refresh his memory as to what he was doing on 032898.

Or/and try contacting the GM Heritage Center https://www.gmheritagecenter.com and see if they can contact these two gentlemen for you.

Or try the National Corvette Museum http://www.corvettemuseum.org/. David Hill was to have an appearance this month at the museum. They should have his contact information. Have them forward your question to him when he appears or before.

Let's see pictures of the signatures.

Try contacting Betty Hardison (Library) or Gary Cockriel at the NCM. Good chance the car might have been at an event there when both Hill and Cafaro were in attendance.

Here is the NCM contact link

A little compound and you can buff those right out.

Very nice!

What is your serial number-is it low? The Serial number will be the last 5 numbers of the Vin.

The last five numbers are 08698
Not really very low, but maybe so for a convertible with manual transmission ?

That's a fairly early '98 but those last five numbers are a sequential production number (there were 31,069 1998 Corvettes produced) and doesn't reflect how many convertibles were made prior to that or how many manual trans cars were built up till then.

CarFax may be the best source to finding out how many times the car was sold. That wil show up as when new titles were issued. It will also show any problems or collision repairs handled thru an insurance company. Most state DMV's will no longer provide details of vehicle sales such as seller/buyer names or even locations.

On the drivers side door jamb, what is the date of manufacture? Your vin is early in the 98 run.

my 98's vin sequence is 17368, born on date: 1-12-98. With 31,000+ 98's made I'd say this car was made Aug-Sept. 1997 timeframe.

car was probably signed during an event at the NCM.......Dave Hill used to hang out with us at some CF Cruise In's and sign hoods, gloveboxes...etc.

my money says....http://www.c5registry.com/newsrl/BirthDay.htm

The C5 Registry Birthday Weekend will be held March 27-29, 1998, with the announcement by Chevrolet of an all-new feature for the Corvette. Chevrolet engineers and representatives will be on-hand to present seminars

And first model year for the C5 convertible! Does your SPID sticker on the inside of the glove box door have the NCM delivery RPO?

Edit: I just noticed that RPO code R8C first appeared for model year 2001.

phoneman91,

The sticker on my 98's on the backside of the rear cargo area cover, it has the R8C code included.

RBC is the code for NCM Delivery

R8C is the RPO code for Museum Delivery where a Corvette is diverted from the ordering dealer and delivered to the Museum. Once their new Corvette arrives at the Museum, the new owner journeys to Bowling Green where they will enjoy the VIP treatment for a full day with private tours of the Assembly Plant and the Museum.

Should have added the sig pic to my comment. Did it in 98, and have driven the 98 back to the NCM in 2006 and 2010 to take my buddy there to pick up his 06 C6 and 2010 C6 Grand Sport. Looking forward to doing it again someday.

I was going to do it with my 07Z but I had an option to get what I wanted sooner and a few other things weighed into the decision to buy sooner rather than wait

hopefully the C5 Registry can answer some questions for the OP

Dang--the usually accurate Corvette Black Book doesn't list that NCM delivery RPO. When did NCM delivery first start?
