That is true. My travel trailer came with a cheap power converter. I would leave it plugged in and it would ruin the batteries every year. The first Battery tender JR was from Camping World and did a fine job of keeping both trailer batteries up. Then I bought a better power converter with a charge controller like Battery Tenders use. Now that one is for my Diesel tractor and I just leave the trailer plugged in again. No problems now.

I have been using one for my C5Z for over a year now, it works great! I think the only difference is it "charges" at a slower rate at .75 amps while the larger one is 1.25 or 1.5 amps. The Jr. works just fine! I use it on an optima red top.
