Also agree that if the Column DOES NOT lock without the Key in the Ignition then some sort of recall work was done or someone put in a CLB... that being said you still need to do the LMC5 IMHO...

Do I need the LMC5?
I recently purchased an 02 vert M6. The steering wheel will not lock up with or without the key in the ignition. I have a receipt showing that a new ignition control module was installed by the dealer in 09 due to the column locking up. How do I know if the LMC5 is needed or of it has already been done? As I said the column will not lock now at all.

if it doesn't lock at all I suspect you have more than the GM "fix" done...I doubt GM would fix the car and disable the lock

if you have a CLB installed it will be under the drivers knee bolster...small black box
