I am trying to remove the shifter assembly. Does anyone have the expanded procedures? The shifter floats and car is stuck in park. Im trying to fix with the repir kit from Ecklers first. I have 3 10mm screws removed but the 4 one has a cable running across the top. How does this cable get removed? I see where it attaches and I want to know exactly how it comes off before I make it come off and create more fun
Here is all the related info from the 2000 FSM. If you need more or anything else let us know. I assume you have already removed the console? If not I can provide that info for you.

Just last month I had to repair my shift cable as the bushing had failed. I used a couple different links to help me fix the problem. You can also google C5 Auto shifter cable repair for some YouTube videos that are just as helpful.
Here are two links that have plenty of good information:
1st link is useful for removing the shifter. Its not about shift cable repair but has good step by step with pictures for removing the shifter. Re-installation is in reverse order.
Also be very careful handling the shift cable as it has very little tolerance for bending. In short - It breaks very easy when being bent; you will see the warnings written up in the threads. If that happens your problem just got more challenging as you will need to replace the cable.

What he said...do not attempt to lift up on the shifter assembly unless you remove the cable.....the end part will break and you can not shift the car.....ask me how I know.
