Get out of my brain...thanks for starting this thread. I was thinking about starting a similar one. I'm about to powder coat my rims black but I'm worried it will be to much black. I was thinking about maybe a thin red strip around outer rims and a red strip to add some color. curious to see what's out there...

The factory rims are pretty pitted and would be very expensive to repair. That's why I'm getting them powder coated. The plan for the red strip is so their not 100% black. My father-in-law sent me this to try but I'm not a fan. Goes from hood to trunk.

yeah i'm not liking the one fat stripe

if your wheels are pitted and there chrome 95% of the time there replica wheels GM never made a chrome z06 wheel just painted or polished, I bought my car with aftermarket chrome wheels on it and they was pitted to so off they went, if you done mine me asking whats it costing you to have them coated?

I saw an all black c5z yesterday on the way home from work. It was pretty much slammed with I think wider offset wheels - it looked really good and had no stripes. I think stripes would have ruined the look personally but to each their own.

Your FIL might want to rethink that particular design stripe; it looks like a giant tongue. Maybe that's what he was going for?

sorry. I hope I didn't hijack your thread.

That's pretty funny. "it looks like a giant tongue."

this is what he used as a template. Not sure where he got it from but i was supposed to cut it to the size i wanted and then he would make the actual strip.

wait. these aren't factory?

this is the pitting I was talking about.

the powder coating is $80 a rim. The issue is you can only bring them the rims. So I have to put it on jack stands, remove wheels, get tires removed ($20 a tire), powder coated, get tires put back on ($20 a tire), put wheels back on, take off jack stands...PITA.

This... i think the car looks good as is, and i'm not a fan of stripes at all... maybe lower it some and change the wheels to something different?

sgmz06,
easiest way to see if the rims are replicas or factory is to pull one off the car and look at the back of the spokes.factory will have "gm" or "made in italy" stamped on the back.if you see "made in china" they are replicas.
if you're still not sure post a pic of the back of wheel and people here can tell you.

i'm going to try 1" lower and the wheel will get changed i'm leaning on c6 GS wheels but been holding off since wide fenders been ringing in my head lol

I really think the wheel are bring it down some, i'm really not a fan of stripes either i've only seen a few c5's with them that i actually liked that's why i started the topic hoping some one with a black z06 would post pics so i can decide

I heard that GM started offering the chrome wheel in 2002. Mine has them just like the ones in the previous port. I can't prove that is correct, though.
