Default Tire Sensor or Wheel Sensor?

Morning all
For the past year, my left rear tire show as being flat when I first start driving. It eventually reads properly and all is well. However, there have been a couple of times when after driving a long distance, stopping for about an hour then driving again, that sensor has taken a good half hour before it kicks in. At that point then the TPMS has assumed that it has lost contact. Does this sound like the tire sensor? or wheel sensor?

It only happens on that tire
Thanks

Sounds like a weak battery in the sensor? Try reprogramming first . . .

Just for grins, how much air is in that tire, measured with a manual gauge?

If they are the original sensors they are well past their life span of 10 years. They will need to be replaced. Because they are generation 1 sensors the cost is about $70.'s each vs. under $50's for generation 2. If it were me I'd replace them all at the same time and not have the next one go bad a month from now, or if you intend to keep the car for over 10 years I'd switch to the gen. 2 system for under $500.'s.

That'll work, although if the sensor is that marginal, it probably won't get through the training cycle.
(And don't forget to put the wheels back on the correct side when you're done.)

Absolutely.
Regarding the wisdom of replacing all four at once: I'm not sure about the older system, but the newer one doesn't like having sensors of different signal strengths. If you drop a new one into the mix, old ones that worked before may fail to retrain. DAMHIKT

Upon further review: the system doesn't know where the tire is mounted, just what order they were trained in. Just retrain the rears in reverse order, no need to move any wheels.

That's what I said.
