Default Trans Cooler Mounting?

Where are you auto guys mounting your trans coolers? Picked up a nice ATI unit yesterday and its slightly bigger than my last cooler. Just trying to get a good idea of where to run it where it will get the best performance. Let me know. Also running 6AN or barbed fittings?

There are a fair amount of threads on this. Depends on the size as to where it will fir. I've got B&M's stacked cooler with fan mounted under the drivers headlight. All Braided line and -an fittings. The fan switch in in the ashtray but I rarely use it. Level 5 trans with 3200 stall and supercharged and i never see 200 even on hot days. I run it through the radiator first as Rodney at RPM suggested I do. Check the threads. If you decide to stash it under the headlight, be DAMN sure to check the headlight movement for clearance. Rod

Rod, your setup is very similar to mine. You got any pics of how you mounted that cooler?

Mine was mounted in the front passenger side wheel well. No problems at all running with a 3000 stall in Louisiana heat.

I just got supercharged a while back. The intercooler blocks the transcooler from getting direct air now. So temps have started creeping up, just a short cruise gets me pushing 210-215 temps. Before it was nearly always about 185-195. So probably going to have to relocate the trans cooler.

can I ask what a level 5 trans is? Is that an upgrade to the auto box?

Cactus, no, sorry, I didn't take any pics on the install. But search the threads. There are several that were posted just a few weeks ago with pics. Brit, level 5 is a level starting at 2 I believe and going up to 7 or 8 on how much the trans is fortified for horsepower and torque capability. Rodney @ RPM Transmissions did mine and said it should stand up to 800 plus horsepower. It shifts with more authority when you stand on it but just like stock for around town. Rod

I mounted mine in front of the radiator/AC condenser using home made brackets.

Here is a pic of mine that shows the location, it's a b&m with fan. It pulls air so fan is on back, wheel well cut out and brake duct removed for air. Trans temps never go above 185* with a 3400 stall, they hit 285* before, trans does not go through radiator (Dewitt's) at all I use that for oil cooler.

Not the best pic but you get the idea

If you go to the forced induction section I had a thread labeled " separate transmission cooler question" several members posted pics that helped my mechanic, these guys are very helpful. Good luck guys! I don't know how to post a link to the thread, sorry

To post a link to a thread, when you're in the thread, click in the address bar (at the top) to highlight the whole address, then right click and select Copy. Now when you want to paste that thread address into a new post, just select the little round blue "hyperlink" icon and then right click in that window and Paste the link. Try a little experimenting and you'll have it down in nothing flat !!

Here's the link to the thread Adam was looking for, over in Forced Induction.
I had A&A put my cooler in, with some other stuff I had done. They put it in under the drivers headlite, similar, but not exactly, as Adams was done. I put a few pictures of my install, in his thread. Fan is wired on, all the time.

I love it, and the transmission got up to 191 once in very hot weather once. That's the highest I've observed it, since install. Now that it's cooled off some, it ususally runs between 145 and 165, depending on traffic, temp, etc.

Crusing on the highway today, ambient temp outside was 74, and transmission temp was 147, most of the time.

In hotter weather, and heavy traffic, it runs between 160 and 185 most of the time. As I said, under most extreeme conditions, saw it at 191 that one time.

Thanks guys, we ended up figuring out a pretty good solution, mounted it behind the licence plate holder on the front, cut it out and made a mesh screen and bracket for it... works phenomenal. Hottest shes got was 165 beating the snot out of it. Love the way it looks too.
