I can get most of these things from like Autozone. However, is there any brands out there that you guys feel make the car run smoother or brand that's better?
- You can get the plug wires from Amazon, about $61
- A fuel filter is always a good thing to change but it should last a good 50K miles assuming you are using a good brand of gas.
- For a paper air filter, there are lots of choices, just replace it annually.
- Serp belt- Dayco, Federated, Gates, AC Delco- they are all good
- Trans fluid for the auto trans is something I would leave to a reputable shop. It's a messy job to change without a flushing machine.
- For brake fluid, a good DOT3 fluid like Castrol LMA, Valvoline, or even the Ford HD Motorsports fluid.
- Mobil-1 5W30 was the factory fill for all Corvettes since '92. Nothing wrong with continuing to use that.
- For an oil filter, WIX is a good brand as is AC Delco, or the Mobil-1 filter (pricey, but look for online deals)
- For PS fluid, I like the Red Line Synthetic fluid. Do a complete flush.
- The C5 uses DexCool, get the Havoline brand DexCool in concentrated form. Build your own 50-50 mix using distilled water (buck a gallon at any grocery store) Much cheaper than buying a pre-mix. Don't bother with a cleaner. Drain the old coolant, refill with water, run engine to operating temp, drain, repeat. Then drain an refill with new coolant. I would stay away from the universal coolants.
