It's time to get under the car and change the differential fluid. My car is a 2003 z06 with 85,000 miles on it. A while ago, I bought a used PFADT tranny brace for dirt cheap because it was there. But I wonder if I really need it? My forum reading came up with this as the best description I could understand for its' purpose:
"The Pfadt Transmission Mount and the DTE brace are focused on two different problems. The DTE brace is focused on strengthening the transmission and differential. The Pfadt Transmission mount is focused on transferring the loads from the transmission and differential to the sub-frame." and from my reading I understand it's an aid to curing wheel hop. Lots of posts say its' best use should be combined with a diff brace, which I'm sure I'll not need. If I ever mod further, my goal will be 400-425 rwhp.
in 60,000 miles of driving, I've only had the wheels hop once, during hard acceleration in a turn. I don't race the car; mild street acceleration once in a great while, but "hard" acceleration more while rolling freeway speeds. I'm looking for an answer that tells me how this addition can help over stock parts...the car's set up with PFADT shocks and struts already, and the money I spent on the part won't influence my decision to keep or sell the brace. I'd put it in just because it was cheap enough, but I wonder if it would do anything for my driving conditions--so I wonder if it's worth the labor?
Thanks, Vetteman, but the picture at your link shows the differential brace, yes? This is what I've got:
While the picture at ECS is different, I still think their description applies to my brace, but I wanna be sure. As a WAG, do you think it'd be worth installing the PFADT from my description of driving habits? Thanks!
Well it can't hurt and doesn't add any vibration to the ride.
I put the Hoosier one in that's identical to the Pfadt.
I was having some wheelhop with my M6 after I had the A&A SC installed
so I added the ECS brace.
That took care of my wheelhop but I added the mount as it puts less load on the stock driveshafts under hard acceleration.
I opened up one of the bolt holes on the factory weight that bolts to the driver side of the differential so it cleared the Hoosier mount just because.
Now with a stock Z06 I don't know if the mount will be of any real benefit unless you just want to put it in.

The main purpose of that brace is for road racing. The C5 has a very small mount holding the trans and diff assembly to the rear cradle, so that brace gives it extra rigidity on hard cornering.
The C6 took care of this problem by putting mounts on both sides of the diff instead of just one in the center.
They are common to break on hard launches. The left side is longer then the right so it is the more common side to break.
Tks Doug
When you nail down the rear end, it put more stress on the output
shafts. There is a lot of flex built into the OEM part, which goes away
when you put on the part you are asking about...
