Trunk wont latch on one side

Default Trunk wont latch on one side

So I went to close the trunk of my 99 coupe today. I pressed down on both sides like I always do to close it, but it didn't latch on the left side. There's nothing in the way/nothing changed, so I assume there's an issue with the latch itself. The latch functions when I press down on it. The right side still works fine. I've tried to close the left first as well, but it just wont stay closed on that side. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Only a center latch on the trunk. So maybe something is caught on the left side causing the lid to lift on that side

With only one latch, something must be amiss elsewhere.

Edit - don't know what I was thinking.
There are two latches on the trunk. Guess I had a senior moment.

You are correct. I suppose different years could have only one latch in the middle, but I thought I had both R/L latches as well. So I just went out in the garage and looked and yeppers, I have two latches, one on each side of my 98 coupe. I'd think that your latch has come loose slightly and has moved down so the latch is fitting into the locking mechanism but not deep enough to catch. Take the cover off on that side and take a look-see... Report back.

2 latches on the trunk? Wow my learning of the day,
I had a 2001 that i drove for 148K miles 1- trunk latch
My 2003 Z has one trunk latch
My wife's 2004 Vert has one trunk latch.

There were a number of changes like removal of the passenger door exterior lock that happened in 2000. Maybe the central trunk latch was added at that time....

Yeah maybe so. I def have two and they both make an audible noise when locking, noticeable from each side. Maybe it was a cost or weight savings measure.

Convertibles and FRCs have one latch. Coupes have 2.

I have a 2001 Base Coupe, it has two. If adjusted properly, I actually prefer the two because the lid is fiberglass. With two latches, it holds the lid down nicely on both sides. I'm curious?? Do the Z06's have 1 or 2?

Took both the covers off each side. The latched were set about the same height. Put it back together and hit it with lithium grease, works great again. Thanks!

Glad it was simple.

PS: The Owners Manual is clear on the number of latches and where the release cable (s) is/are for what style car you have.
