I was reading in Ken's newsletter that the MN12 is gone! Is this true? Is GM going to standardize on the MN6 or release a new Z06 tranny?
Topic: Corvette Z06 and 6-Speed Manual Transmission (M12)
Be advised that 6-spd. Manual Transmission (M12) on the Corvette Z06 (Model 1YY37) has been changed to a Merchandising Option MN6 in the GM Order Guide. This is a change to the Regular Production Option (RPO) code only and does not affect the vehicle.
Sounds to me like they are just calling all 6 speeds MN6 and keeping the trannies with what they currently have in the cars. At least i hope thats what it is... I'd be angry if my Z-06 arrived with less than the 3.42s.
Well I think they'd keep the diff gears the same (3.42). My 01 Couple has 3.42 gears in the rear. I'm just curious if the M12 option has been replaced with the standard MN6 option.
There was a big discussion on this too on "the other forum" when this first came out. I went to Ken himself to explain his post and his words are...
"Here's what this means:
There were two RPO's (used only for ordering purposes) for the manual transmission on a Corvette. MN6 and M12. Though the manual is standard on the Z06 it could cause confusion for ordering purposes. The transmisson in a Z06 is completely different than the one in the coupe and convertible. The RPO change has nothing to do with transmission only that MN6 will now be the only RPO for a manual transmission.
