Default Bit the bullet... 98 Coupe

Just wanted to say hello and introduce my new mistress. Have been lurking awhile soaking in info.
Have always loved Vettes. Dad had a 68 Vert and an uncle had a 65 back in the late 70s.
Found this 98 that tripped my trigger. Would probably be what you call a 10footer. Needs some TLC.... LMC5 module for sure. Column doesn't lock with key out and haven't checked to see if a module has been installed yet. PO didn't know. Has the dim lights on HVAC, key fob is giving me fits, passenger side door lock ignores remote and drivers seat bottom needs new foam. PO was a BIG man.
Fuel gauge did the dropping to empty on the trip home with it. Heart sank because I had just filled it. Had me worried but a bottle of Techron did the trick.
Haven't pulled codes yet. ...next on the agenda. No messages on display other than 11% life left on oil. It's getting fresh Mobil1 tomorrow. Local shop has drive on lift. I'm supplying the oil....give them 6 or 7 quarts? Specs I saw was 6.4 capacity and didn't want to get told it took 7 and give away a $10 quart of oil.

1 more question...PO said he flushed the DexCool and it has regular antifreeze in it now. He said the DexCool wasn't good. Didn't really see any negative coments about Dex on here....was just wondering what's the best for it?

A big
welcome !!

When I bought mine it had the classic Green coolant and I changed back to Dexcool. I think you're OK running either. What ever you use just pay attention to its condition and how long it's in the cooling system. Its not that expensive to change.

Congrats on picking up your '98. Hope it gives you lots of driving pleasure.

Factory specs for an oil change calls for 6.5 quarts, although some report it takes close to 7 quarts to read right on the dipstick. I've always used the 6.5 quantity and it has read perfectly on the dipstick. And if you're paying $10/quart for Mobil 1, find another place to get the oil. It's more expensive to buy individual quarts rather than the 5 quart jug at say Wal-Mart, but it still shouldn't cost but around $7-7.50 a quart.

I have always used DexCool in mine and have had no problems. I do change it every 5 years or 100K miles (whichever is less) as recommended in the owner's manual.

Sharp car and welcome to the 98 club. From what I've been reading, the newer antifreezes are pretty much all compatible now with our cars. Not that expensive or hard to change if you'd like some peace of mind however. I think you'll be ok either way.

Check the "options" configuration for the door locks, it might be configured to open only the drivers door on the first unlock button push. If so you have to hit the button twice, first for drivers door, second push for passenger. You can reset this to both doors on initial unlock via the drivers info center.

Press the option button, then scan thru until you see "passive unlock (it will say what the current configuration is) if its set at unlock drivers only and you want both opened hit the reset the button at the bottom to change it. Hopefully that is all that's wrong.

Where is Jackson Creek NC?

Welcome to the forum, and good choice on the 98

Lol....I had just cut it. I cut so much grass over at Moms that by the time I'm done it's time to mow again. That must have been a patch that I started on....lol
All the rain we've had here in NC has got the grass and wild onions in overdrive.

Thanks for all the welcomes and info. Lots of gorgeous cars on here.

Mac5....I'm about 15 miles west of Asheboro....maybe 30 south of Greensboro.
