Default Euro code headlight Casper Electic harness

I received my harness from Casper for the high wattage Euro code headlight upgrade/install. I don't know where they want you to install the ground as it comes out of the harness past where the frame mounted ground is located? Have any of you installed this harness? Looks like they expect you to ground it somewhere under the headlight or somewhere on the frame after the passenger side headlight? For the life of me I don't know why they didn't just have the ground near where the power wire is so it could ground right below the battery box on the ground stud.

Thanks in advance.

I removed the nut from the front bolt on the right-side hood hinge on the frame. (It's just rearward of the front passenger hood bumper and easy to access.) All I did was use 80-grit sandpaper to take the paint off the area around the bolt to insure good grounding contact and then tighten the nut down good over the ground wire's ring connector.

With the Casper harness you know you have the capacity for 100/90W bulbs, yes? I use the Narva's, and recommend them. They seem extremely powerful; however, I've not tried Hella's, etc. Daniel Stern recommended the Narva's so I stuck with them.

I was going to go with the 100/90s but Daniel Stern sent me a link to a test on the candlepower forum where the 70/65s perform almost as well as the 100/90s with a better bulb life and less amperage. I'm going to try the 70/65s first. A candle will probably be better then the stock headlights anyway. I may just lengthen the ground in their harness so I can ground it on the frame below the battery box.

Thanks

how much for the casper harness and is it better than daniel stern....also let us know how the new lights work and if 100/90s to strong for legality or if issues with the law...thanks, my next mod.

The Casper harness is/was about $134 shipped. Daniel Stern doesn't make the harness (I don't think) but sells the parts to make one? The Casper harness looks really well made and is marked made in USA, my only complaint is the location of the ground wire which I butt spliced and heat shrinked an extension on and it now comes out in the battery box. Legal headlight wattage is 55/60 so do your research and make your own decision on the wattage you want to go with. I will try to take before and after pictures with the stock headlights and when I have the Ecode with 70/65s installed.

I agree with harness description. If you understand electronics and wiring I bet you can build the harness for about 25-40% of the cost w/ connectors and 12-gauge wire from any source and Stern's relays. Stern will tell you how to build the harness, but I bought the Casper's because it was recommended (as Made in USA) and electricity is voodoo to me. I didn't trust that I could follow Stern's directions. (I estimate 25-40% because that's what it cost for my 55/60 fog light harness after buying the Casper headlight harness.)

I live in Miss'ippi where no one really cares about the 55/60 limit. I've had the 100/90W installed since my conversion in March 2014. I've never been flashed by oncoming traffic. I've driven in Los Angeles and San Francisco for an accumulated total of about 10 weeks since that time and never been pulled over for the lights. That's not to say you'll be immune- it's just my experience.

It'd be nice to see your night pictures when you're through. For 100/90W pics, search the forum for a post by JoeA, Joe_A or Joe A. He's got some good pics posted.

My opinion is that the E-code lights throw a much more practical light cast compared to the aftermarket HID projectors. In the pitch black darkness, the diffuse upper limit is not a sharply-defined line like the HID's, and I think E-code lights throw useful illumination MUCH farther. Low beams out to 400yd, high beams out to 10 seconds' driving time at 80mph. I dunno how far that is, but 10 seconds is plenty. The HID patterns I've seen for myself don't throw an illuminating pattern as well.
