I'm picking up a Z tomorrow. I have been outta the C5 Z scene awhile but know that there are a ton of mods that I want, Like: new receiver, seats, wheels, some kind of paint protectant, and just some good go fast mods.
However, what are the must have mods?
FYI,
This car will be tracked, both road and drag.
Well, I have always been a dont mod it until your abilities surpass the cars performance. However, It my only fun car right now so I want to make it fun.

Oh Boy.......He Gone!!!!!! No end to making a toy like this fun. The sky (or your wallet) is the limit. Talking from experience here.
If you're going to keep it streetable and track it and don't want to get too crazy I would do oil cooler, big brake kit, seat, harnesses. Then down the road shocks, sway bars. I would save the power mods for last.
I came from a highly modded C4 that was an absolute $$ pit. So when I bought my 03Z, I promised myself that I would not go crazy on the mods for awhile. Here's what it had when I bought it, and what I've done since:
Had:
Pfadt swaybars and Johnny O shocks
Oil cooler
ducted brake cooling lines
Hurst Shifter
CAI
C5 sport seats
What I've done:
Headers - xpipe- hi flo cats - Borla ATAKs
New wheels size +1 (kept stock wheels with Nitto NT-5's mounted)
Need:
Tune
So I agree with the above:
Headers/Exhaust
CAI
Tune
Before the "go fast" mods, replace the sloppy stick shifter. Makes the car so much more fun to drive. I suggest MGW, but there's cheaper options that are nice as well. After that, go nuts with full exhaust and whatever else you'd like.
If your going to be putting on sticky tires to hold you in the corners better, then you should dry sump or at least accusump at a minimum. The dry sump will require you to relocate battery to the trunk, and don't forget to strap it down. Put in a 5-6point harness, the seat back has the passthrough, just change the seat cover, (Stock shifter is fine for me)and brake pads. The stock calipers are fine, maybe change the rotors.

- PAC 1218 Valve Springs, some LS6's are known to have faulty valve springs. 2004 MY were upgraded and don't seem to have the problems.
- Skip Shift Delete
- Better seat. I've got a Sparco Roadster modified to mount to the factory power base
- C6 Z06 Shifter
- Lock Column Bypass
- Tick Clutch Master Cylinder
- CAI
- Headers
- Tune
- Proper HID headlights
- Jacking pucks
This should be a good start.
