Default Dash Vibration Help!

My 2003 Z06 has developed a very annoying dash vibration when driving on mildly rough surfaces like gravel. It's not a rattle, more of a loud vibration. The sound comes from the top center of the dash pad near the defroster vents. I removed everything in that area including the windshield wiper assembly. The noise did not change until I removed the dash pad itself when it went away completely. So it's the dash pad vibrating against something under it.

I noticed the following slot on the dash pad and matching bolt on the support frame. There appears to be wear on one side of it which may be my vibration. It is exactly in the right location for the sound.

It seems odd to me that GM would not put some sort of spring device here to hold the dash pad tight to the dash frame. Am I missing something? Should there be something here? Does anyone have a microfiche drawing of the dash area showing if a fastener should be here?

Thanks

Or should the tab on the dash pad slide under the plastic on either side of the bolt? Maybe that's it...

I have seen two posts before on the same issue. If I remember they just put a pad in the space so there was no relative motion. Will see if I can find that in my Thread inventory at home for you.

Had noises that sounded to be under my dash tore everything apart glued foam underneath everything and it never went away. One day happened to press down on my hood and heard the noise. Somehow the rubber stoppers magically turned themselves without being loosened. Adjusted to sit higher problem solved.

I can't find the Thread I was referring to, thought I had kept it. This is all I could find for under the dash in the center.

Mr. Sam
Yeah, that was it! That plastic tab will not slide under the plastic. Impossible based on how it's molded. The fix was to place a piece of double sided foam tape between the dash pad and dash frame around the alignment pin. Completely silent now!
