I have concerns about the interior noise level. I drove one with aftermarket exhaust (not sure what kind) and the drone was so bad I only went about a half mile and told the guy no thanks. I have owned a c-3 a c-5 base and a c-6 base. Are the z06's just going to be that much louder? Just wondered what some of you guys thought that have owned both
I drove a friends c6 z06 and it was loud and it only had 9,500 miles on it and completely 100% stock. I didn't like it at all. MY stock 2001 is quiet as a mouse.

I was afraid of that. I am not sure I want to get into a loud car anymore. my c-5 wasn't loud at all. my c-6 was even better. I did put sound deadening in my c-5 though

When my '04 Z06 was bone stock, you had to get the exhaust above 3500 rpm's to really notice it. Thinner insulation and windshield are definitely going to make the cabin noise louder, but no more than a convertible I would imagine. In fact, my '00 vert with Corsa exhaust was louder than my bone stock Z. That being said, I now have LG long tube headers, and couldn't be happier. Roars above 3k rpm's, but zero drone while cruising. My girl doesn't mind the car, and that should tell you something!
On a side note, lots of people choose to install a trunk divider, and that cuts the sound from the exhaust even more. Test drive a Z06 with stock exhaust or a mild aftermarket option before you rule it out. These cars are an absolute blast to drive.

Are you talking about exhaust drone or road noise? I have no exhaust drone on the highway but even with my partition I find the car on the highway to still be somewhat noisy.
My coupe is reasonably quiet, running the Ti's, no issues with radio or conversation. My Z was a bit louder when running the stock Ti's, but not stupid loud. When I changed to the Corsa's, it is louder when on the petal, but close to stock sound levels when cruising. My son is running PRTs on his Z, way too loud for me. Non of the cars have drone.
If the guy had aftermarket mufflers, that explains the drone and loudness. He might have also removed the cats.
The stock Ti muffler system is not that loud, even with headers. Test drive another with the full factory exhaust, I'm guessing you'll be fine with it. Is it louder than a base model, absolutely. Drone, none.
I drive mine daily with headers, Magnaflow cats & X-pipe, into the Ti mufflers. Sounds great when you get on it, but no problem at lower RPM's or just maintaining speeds.
Maybe you don't understand the concept of the C5Z. Everything (almost) that made the car lighter, also increases interior noise compared to regular C5s. The drone is easily rid of by changing the catback, and adding a partition that separates the cabin from the trunk area. You will still get more tire noise than a standard 'Vette, but you can add insulation, if you find after making the other changes that it's still too loud. Other than that; It's a CORVETTE, not a Prius.
Depends on what you want, really. A Z06 is never going to be a quiet cruiser. Mine with the Corsa exhaust will drone a little in 5th, but shift up to sixth gear and that all goes away. Still loud with both exhaust noise and wind noise, but I don't even think about that when I'm driving it. It's bearable on longer trips, but an absolute treat when blasting on back roads or tooling around town.
The cabin partition makes a small difference, but if you don't like the car without it, it won't change your mind.
Yes, the Z06 is generally just a loud car with very little insulation. There was nothing wrong with the ones you drove. I have owned 2, and ridden in many others.

NO problem. Been there... Many popular aftermarket exhaust systems will come with a drone at about 1700 rpms, or in the neighborhood of 70 in 6th. My first catback was a used Borla Stinger, and though it sounded great, I couldn't stand the drone. After 3 different aftermarket catbacks, I wish I'd just kept the stock ti, but I'm OK with the Corsa Pace Car that I have now. Still pretty loud, but no drone. I do have a partition, too.
Stock Ti's and a partition, mine sounds deep and aggressive when heavy on the throttle but smooth and respectable when cruising around. Depending on what mufflers that car had it could be WAY louder just from the mufflers alone.. I like stock Ti mufflers or corsa's personally.
The c5 z is not that loud with stock TIs even with headers, as my z has, you do
realizes that its a factory built race type car. there are give and takes for performance.
When I had my stereo done I had soundeading done to the whole inside and made a big difference. I also have headers and borla exhaust. I have best of birth worlds. Put the windows down and leave off the stereo and listen to that sweet sounding exhaust.
