Have some damage on the hood liner caused by the acc. belt coming apart caused by the harmonic balancer moving - caused by Chevrolet's need to save $10 or so...but I digress.
I'm ready to send for an OEM replacement but also wondering about the decorative "liners" I see at Ecklers, et al.
Do these things just "adhere" to the original liner?
Opinions on use of these vs. just replacing the original?
Cost? Unless you attend lots of car shows where you pop your hood and people see the underside of your hood, I can't imagine spending much more money on a replacement than is necessary. In fact, if it was me, I'd contact one of the guys parting out C5s on this forum to see if they have a used hood liner in decent shape for cheap.
The shipping is free if you order through the dealership. I ordered one about six months ago. Can't remember exact price but it was reasonable with no shipping. I was surprised that they still had them stocked. I would at least check to see if they are still available.
I bought mine at a local chevy dealer. I got the part number and searched online and found it within an hours drive away for about $140? Called the local dealer and they came close and bought it from them. With all new supports and sales tax I was at about $150-160.

I went w/CAR MOTORSPORTS Underhood Insulator Kit (www.carmotorsports.com). Custom to your requirements using your original insulator. I've had mine for many yrs now & it looks like new...
If I ever damaged mine, I'd just remove it permanently and shine up the underside of the hood. Yes, your hood will probably get a little hotter but nothing too serious.

Ordered mine thru dealership so they would get it shipped and I wouldn't have to mess with it... I took my old one OFF and drove the VETTE to the dealership when it came in and put it ON at the dealership... no fuss, no muss... worked out perfect
Was just over $100 for a BRAND NEW liner
Make sure you have the plastic keepers to hold the liner in place...
When I bought my car about 4 years ago I ordered three from the dealership. One came in damaged that they replaced. I like the cosmetics on my cars to be stock and the liners are flimsy.
I doubt the GM warehouses have many left at this time. The box is huge. If you had to pay for shipping it would be $150 as a minimum.

That's about what I paid for mine a few years ago and shipping was free to the dealer. If you want a little bling on it, you could always try painting the C5 logo embossed on the liner yourself. Many others have done that and it has turned out very good.

I don't think you'd want to do that. The underside of the hood isn't totally painted.
Wow, I need one but I haven't even thought about getting one due to the cost, that I thought would be terrible. I now know thanks to the wonderful folks on this forum, that I can get one for ~$160!!! I will be ordering one from the local Chevy Dealer ASAP!!!!
I have a good amount of engine dress up pieces and I really dislike the look of the liner, its damaged rather badly from a frayed serpentine belt from the previous owner!!!
