Default Question about 1999 power window switch

Can anyone tell me if the I can replace my current power window switch (the module with the window up\down buttons, door locks and mirror adjustment) which does not have the memory buttons, with the newer one that does have the memory buttons.

It seems the older module that I have cost $300+ online and the replacement model with the memory buttons can be found for around $70.

I assume it would work, just the memory buttons wouldnt do anything.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Jamie.

Yes you can use the Memory type switch with NO problems. Been done by many people and I had verified the schematics and connectors for this years ago.

If you want a correct switch (used) try Marc at VetteNuts.net, a great Forum member here.

Yes, as dad says, the switch will work fine. And, if you have electric seats, the memory function will work for them and your side view mirrors.

It will not add seat memory if you just have power seats. They do not have an SCM, just a relay center.

Sorry, dad, but I beg to differ. My car came with manual seats, and I swapped them out for electrics. I then added the "memory" driver's power window switch. Not only did that enable the memory in my new seats, but also the side view mirrors. Maybe GM did something different after 1998 MY, but it worked for my 'vert.

There are Manual seats, Power seats, and Memory seats. You must have swapped and gotten Memory seats so when you added the switch you could activate Memory.

I can post the schematics if you would like to review. The Power seats just have a seat relay box and it is very basic to control the motors with no "brains". The Memory seats have the Seat Control Module (SCM) which is on the serial bus.

I guess I learned something new today, and just in time!
I didn't know there were 3 types of seats. I must've lucked out and got the memory seats, then. On top of all that, I've since swapped those out for Recaros, so I'm back to manual controls anyway.

Trust me, I have been at this for years and hardly a day goes by that I don't learn something new.

Also, if you were able to get memory on the mirrors you were lucky. There are two types with the memory ones having the position sensors and an extra 4 pin harness that connects to the LDCM.

I have heard of that happening to one other person or it may have been you in the past.

How do you ID Power vs. Memory seats?

One way if you don't have the part numbers for the Seat Relay or the SCM is to look at the connector for the entire seat. It is C301 in the below view. It has to have a Brown/White wire for the serial bus to be a Memory seat. If you see this connector and a Blue connector for the TSW then you know you have Memory.
