[Z06] Transmission noises... normal?
28,000 miles
Museum condition.
Owned by someone who religiously changed the oil and maintained the car.
The only modification he did was a Hurst short throw shifter.
Now I have read that an aftermarket shifter transmits more sound than the stock shifter. I do get a faint whine under load, at cruising speeds/loads it goes away, but I feel like there may be excessive other noises as well.
Slight whine
Occasional slight whirring noise
Clicking noises at low rpm. (Occasionally)
Clicking noises when the clutch is in and I'm putting it in gear to a downshift.
Are these normal? Am I just hyper sensitive to normal racecar noises? Or should I be hearing next to nothing but the engine rev and exhaust note?
Many thanks!
- Nate
The clutch makes noise if you don't hold the pedal down when Shutting off the car. That is normal. And threw me off when I got the car.
Enjoy your new ride!
If it's a more audible, higher pitched whine emanating more from the rear of the car then could be bad or thirsty diff.
These cares are very light with little to no sound deadening, all kinds of sounds permeate the cabin- drive around for a couple hours with the radio off and you hear all kinds of mechanical noises, the chatter w/ clutch in @ low rpms is normal and I have heard it on other manual tranny Vettes before
Exact noise (too bad there isnt a KB blower under the hood! )
I appreciate both replies, that settles me greatly. The car is strong, pulls hard, turns tightly, and is in mint condition. Ready to be driven.
Thanks guys.
