Default Go to 400

I Just bought my C5, and has spent money so far on driveability and looks/sound.

Allthough I think the C5 has desent power, I think that 50 hp more would be exactly right. (yes of course, more will have more...)

I know that completely stock cars have limitations based on emmisions, sound, safety limits etc. Therefore I would guess that the LS1 should easily find 400 hp with small alterations and tweaking.

What is the easiest way to 400 hp (not whp)?

What would a ballpark figure cost for decent intake, headers and CAI including installation run? I already have a Corsa exhaust so wouldn't be changing that. A good tune I think is around $500 if I remember correctly nearby me. I had considered supercharger but by the time new clutch etc added in I'm over 10k and just don't want to spend that much.

Everything your looking to do will run between $2,000 and $2,500 depending on what brand you buy. When I had my 00 vert 6 speed I did the LG Street Series Long Tube Headers, High Flow Cats, X-Pipe, Z06 Ti Cat-Back, Blackwing CAI and sent the computer out for a bench tune from Chuck COW. It was a completely different (in a good way) car. The sound and the low end torque was excellent.

Good combination.

I have Fast intake, LG Pro longtubes, LG catless X pipe, B&B over axle mufflers, Vararam CAI with HP Tuners tune.

I like the combination. Good power, good mileage, good driving manners, good sound, reliable, etc. I have run 12's and it still gets over 30 mpg on the highway.

Just find an LS6 and install it. you'll get an instant 405 HP, or an LS3 will get you 430 HP, both are very street-able as they are stock Corvette engines. They can be had for 3-4000 dollars US.

My '02 has a Vortec S-2 supercharger and dyno'ed at just under 450 HP at the rear wheels with 400 ft-lbs torque. Outside of larger injectors and a tune provide by SuperChips (came with a programmer loaded with specifics for my car) and a Corsa exhaust, the car is otherwise stock.

While the Corsa Indy Pace Car system is almost loud enough , it's quiet in city traffic. It will deliver 30+ MPG on the freeway in 6th at around 70-72MPH. I still have the original clutch in the car....

True, supercharger kits are expensive when you add the labor charges. Mine was over $5600. But it was professionally done and I have never had any problems with the car.

I have ordered a Magnaflow axle-back exhaust, but since I have a convertible, I'm not sure if it's smart to do headers and x-pipe. I guess it will be too loud... Since the z06 delivers this kind of power with standard exhaust, I guess it's possible without a full system.

As for the CAI systems; some are just cold air intake and some also have a ram-air function as I've understood. How difficult is it to install these systems? I guess it's more difficult with the ram air? Is it much more to gain with the ram air, or just at very high speeds?

Which axle ratio do you have now?

And do you have A4 (automatic) or 6 Speed manual?

I ask this because if you have A4 and were to go to a 3:42 axle ratio it will feel like you added 50(or more)HP.

Great Advice!

I would suggest the VARARAM, AMERICAN RACING HEADERS, and a CAT BACK. BORLA STINGER being my favorite.

Next you add my Chuck CoW AutoCal and CoW BOOSTER! package and you'll be a happy guy without spending all your money.

Stay TUNED!

That would get you close to the 400 bhp mark and not break the bank. Been thinking about the LT headers and a tune myself since I already have an aftermarket catback and a Blackwing.
