Brake Lights Don't Work-Help Please!
I was told to replace BRAKE SWITCH. I did that and nothing. Headlights work, turn signal works, but emergency flasher only work on the front and not the rear and no brake lights. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
Jack
It is possible the Hazard Switch brake contact is bad but I doubt it. This could be jumpered around to verify if that is the issue. The contacts of that particular switch are only used for the Hazard function so they should not be burnt. The fact that you have no Hazards in the rear tells me the MFS is the issue.
Whoever told you to replace the brake switch has no idea how the circuit works. If that were the issue the 3rd brake light would not work.
I have a good DIY on replacing it at home. Here is the schematic. If you need any further justification for my recommendation I would be glad to explain over the phone if you PM me.
I have worked on dozens of Hazard and MFS issues so my recommendation is not without experience.
Some people try to disassemble it to find the problem. The normal issue is just one side but you have both. I can see if I have a DIY on disassembly at home if you want to try that route. Bunch of stuff inside to keep track of.
New can be had from Gene at Cultrag.com or good reliable used from Marc at VetteNuts.net, Both are respected Forum vendors here. New is not cheap and probably around $200.
Mr. Sam
PS: BTW the Dark Green and Yellow wires from the MFS go to the rear brake lights
