Default What tools would you include in a tool kit?

Hey guys,

If you were asked to put together a tool kit specifically designed to work on your Corvette, which tools would be in it? What are the essentials and what would you leave out?

In before the obligatory: Cash money.

Edit: To clarify, my idea was more about a tool set that a new Corvette owner could purchase that would have most if not all the tools required to do basic maintenance or mods to the car.

Nice suggestions, thanks guys.

To clarify though, I'm thinking of a tool kit that a new Corvette owner could buy that would have most if not all of the tools required to do basic maintenance or mods (without all the extra tools that aren't used.)

Ohhhhh.......Just make sure you get metric. A tool kit denotes a few tools carried with you to handle minor problems. A set of tools is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the clarification JR-01, and great suggestions everyone, keep them coming.

To give some more context about why I'm asking, we have an opportunity to work with a major tool manufacturer to develop a set of tools designed for working on a Corvette. It should include all the tools you need, but none you don't. This tool set would come in its own custom designed hard plastic case created for this specific set of tools.

Great Idea...I'm trying to figure the same thing out as what to carry "on the road" or to the track that could handle minor repairs or those track day repairs...something you can throw in the car and have majority of bolt sizes covered...

For a more serious response......

3/8 Standard Ratchet
3/8 Mini Flex Head Ratchet
Basic deep metric socket set (8-19mm)
Metric Ratcheting Wrench set to get where the deep sockets won't and cover the wrench stuff
Torx Socket set, 3/8 drive
Basic Flat and Philips Screwdriver Set
Basic Pliers Set (Needle Nose and Slip Jaw at a minimum)
Oil Filter Pliers
Funnel (one thin mouth, one wide mouth)

I think that would cover about 95% of stuff for a basic DIY Maintenance kit. There's a TON of things I could mention that make life easier, but for the essential no frills basics to get the job done, that list above will hit about it all.

Good list.
I might add...
breaker bar
hose clamp pliers
battery terminal wrench
oil drain pan
1/4 inch metric socket set
torque wrench

I thought about most of that, but figured we're keeping it basic.

Breaker bar.......not sure it's necessary for basic mods and mx.
Hose clamp pliers -- I saw that as an add on, slip joints can be used just fine.
Battery Terminal wrench -- if it's a solid ratcheting wrench set, it'll have an 8mm that's perfect for the battery terminals.
Good call on the drain pan
The 1/4 socket set would be hit or miss.....there is some stuff that the 3/8 won't get. Good idea here too.
Torque wrench.......anther good idea, as lug nuts are the most often abused items I can immediately think of.

Default Torque Wrench

It is so easy to bust stuff with the wrong torque on things - shocks, brake pads etc I think it is a must have to do things right.

I also carry one of those new fangled battery packs. I got mine at Lowes for about $60. It's called an 'insta boost'. It will jump your car, power your phone or lap top etc.
