Has anybody had to get there digital reading for the A/C and outside temp. repaired? Mine is so dim I can't see it expect at night when the headlights are on.
This is an extremely common problem that fortunately is fairly easy for most people to fix at home. I had to do my car too. Repaired it a couple of years ago and it's been perfect since. It's very subtle how gradually it starts going bad until one day it suddenly occurs to you, you can't see the numbers anymore.
Mine has gotten to that point where it needs to be done. Thankfully the weather is co-operating so, being I have to work Christmas weekend
(Friday thru Sunday ) I'll be taking my car to work and fixing it there !
Does this work if the buttons are dim too? Anyone change the color to blue?
Buttons are a different issue. When they don't light up, the bulbs have burned out and need to be replaced. This is a lot more work. Changing the color means changing to LEDs.
my 2003 was getting to the point to where i could not even see it any more...so i took it out and repaired it myself..it was super easy to do..took longer to remove the the unit from the car then it did to repair it..6 months later and it works like new still!

Heck of a lot more work...........I just replaced all of bulbs in the climate control board on my Silverado...2 out of 8 were still good. What a PAIN IN THE A$$ it is when you don't have a solder sucker or solder wick
Pull your HVAC unit. If the "241" resistors on the board look like these:
See how the middle one on the left has a crack between the solder on the end of the resistor and the circuit board? You just need to basically reflow the solder on each end.
If you have any bulbs out on the button panel, it's a good time to replace those too: melt the solder for the busted ones on the back of the board and pull the leads out, then clean out the hole and push the new bulbs in and solder the back side, trim the leads.
