if you get the buffer i listed above you won't have any problem with the 6" kit.you would have to lay on it pretty hard to stop the pad from spinning.
like stated above, the important things with this kit it priming the pad fully, not using too much product on the pad,and i blow the pad clean with an air compressor after each panel.
Blow the pad clean after each section. You cannot do a hood without blowing out the pad. Some panels are smaller than others, but still, blow out after each section. When using MF pads, spent paint and polish accumulate very quickly, which results with less cut and more marring(haze) if not blown out frequently. As far as the 6.5" pads, sure, you can use them, but they won't be nearly as effective as 5.5" pads on an 8mm random orbital(HF).

i totally agree the smaller pad is more effective.but the hf buffer is pretty powerful and i think the bigger pad is more safe for someone that doesn't have a lot of experience with a buffer.with the 5" it almost becomes a rotary buffer where the 6" will stop if they apply to much pressure.you can still get the swirls out with the larger pad but some areas may take extra applications to fully remove.i just hate to see someone burn their paint getting to aggressive and i don't think you can with the 6" pad.
that's why i don't ever recommend a rotary to someone that doesn't have much experience.and this is the best system for a dual action buffer that i have seen.
yes the hood is large and you need to blow out the pad atleast once .the door you can almost do if you're not using a lot of product but it's still a good idea to blow out the pad half way through the door.i usually blow it out every other time i apply product.the pad works best when it's clean
I appreciate all the input. The 5" kit is on the way. Trust me, I'll take it easy.. I don't want to damage the paint either !
You will NOT do damage to the paint with an 8mm Harbor Freight DA. To compare it to a rotary(even with 5" pads) is not even close. TRUST ME. I'm glad you went with the 5" kit. You did get a 5" backing plate too, correct? The HF comes with a 6".

Finally got around to doing my hood today with the previous recommended products. Very easy to do and great results ! Not perfect, but 10x better ! All swirl marks and water spots gone ! Touched up chips with Dr. Color chip, finished with Miami shine wax. There are a few scatches I couldn't get out, think I need a more agressive pad for those. Vast improvement though, will do the rest of the car this week. Thanks again for all the advice !
