When I start the car the headlights pop up and are on. The **** on the steering wheel says off and when I turn the **** from on to off they just stay on.
When I turn off the car they stay on. When I turn the **** on the steering wheel from off to on and then back to off they will go down as normal and turn off.
With the Twilight Sentinel option ON the HLs will come on when it is dark outside or like inside a garage. It will do this with the HL switch in the OFF position.
They will automatically go off when the sensor has enough light.
They should also go off when you turn the car OFF.
The steps to turn it off are in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, you can download one for free on line. Search for your year owner's manual free download thru Google. Basically, you enter the options menu on the DIC and when you get to Twilight Sentinel "on", change it to "off". There are lots of other neat settings in there that the manual will help with, too.
Canadian imports do not have the twilight on/off option...on only!
That is correct, however, you can pull Relay 44 in the I/P fuse box and disable it. It can also be programmed out but pulling the relay makes an easy reversal.
My 2001 vert is a garage queen. The garage is fairly dark even during the day and when I started the vette the headlamps would pop up, and even after pulling away from the garage in bright sunlight, the headlamps would stay up for an extended period. Maybe a minute or more before retracting.. I turned the headlight sentinel off. No problem. It's now just a matter of manually turning on headlights at dusk.
