I'm trying to think of what all I need to take with me to pick up my first vette. I'll be flying to get it and then driving 550 miles home. So does the stock cup holder actually hold anything. I was going to take my insulated coffe cup, but if it won't stay put, there's not much need to pack it. Thanks
The las thing you want is the heartbreak of dumping a full cup of joe on the carpet of your brand new Corvette before you even get it home. Don't tempt fate. Leave the cup holder at home.
Or buy the plastic insert that slips between the floor and console on the passenger side and take it with you. Pricy, and unless your local corvette shop stocks these, shipping might stop you.
The single works well, but the double doesn't have enough room between the two wells for today's cups that get bigger on top to sit side by side. If you are going solo on this trip, you can get a cupholder from Walmart, of all places, that works great, but is very in the passenger's way. I took sandpaper to the edges so there was no chance of sharp plastic marring the console or seat. I also cut a 'koozie' in half and hot glued it inside each well so it is a perfect fit for a 12 oz can. This is the best option if you are riding alone, because you can reach your drink without stretching and losing focus on the road. It also has a square pocket in the middle that fits your phone/gps.
This one is at camping world, but WM sells exactly the same thing in-store

The stock cup holder will hold a cup fairly well as long as it is not very large or is in a 12 oz can. But, if you are going to do some spirited driving () or want a decent sized drink, then you definitely need something else in the car to ensure you don't soak your carpet. The Travel Buddy is a good option - and I think it is available from the National Corvette Museum.
You don't say what year the car is or whether or not it is an automatic or manual tranny. You may want to ask the seller if a device (other than a factory recall fix) has been installed to disable the column lock if it is a manual tranny or an auto from '97-00. The LMC5 mentioned above is a great fix if the car needs it. If an automatic from '01-04, no column lock fix is needed.
Good luck with your flight, purchase and drive home. Once you get a chance, post up pics.
I have the dual travel buddy, use the front cup holder (one closest to front of car) to hold my Macally GPS holder and the rear one for coffee or a drink, works well installs fast and you can remove it in about 5 seconds!
This GPS holder works awesome with the Travel Buddy cup holder, I ordered it from Home depot and was there in 3 days!
Sorry I didn't say before, it's an '03, automatic. I think I'll just skip on a drink. It'll just be me in the car. I do have a Contigo cup. It is over 2 years old and you can put coffee, sugar, etc. and then shake it with no spills or leaks, so may just take that and not worry about it. Ok, so I'm thinking while typing obviously. Thanks for the feedback. I'll, look into a permanent option after I get it home.

These work fine, in fact I have a modified one in my wife's 14 Impala, and one in my C-7. The c-7 actually has two working holders, however the travel buddy works great for incidentals along you trips. (sunglasses, door openers, keys, iPod etc)

Go to the store they have those plastic insulated cups with like sport teams and such on them . They fit perfectly in the holder. I have a tommy Bahama cup fits perfectly in there a little @@@ and tonic cruise down the Hywy
The extra cup holder is a great convenient mod. I bought mine for my 97 and kept it when I sold it in 2007. When I bought my C5 roadster last year, I still had the cup holder!
I love my travel buddy. It holds most cups well in all situations. As one friend of mine said about the stock cup holder, " that wouldn't hold an empty shot glass
