I purchased a 2002 convertible in November that came with some aftermarket additions to the radio. One addition is some kind of FM amplifier - there is a small switch in the center console that greatly increases the radio reception when switched on.
There is also an aux input installed in the center console. No matter what I do, nothing happens when I push the CD/aux button on the radio. Unless there is a cd in the player, in which case it starts playing. Am I just doing something wrong, or is there an issue somewhere?
I'm planning on investigating further this weekend, but would like to get an idea of what to look for / where to look before hand

If you have a factory radio that was modded with an Aux jack, you will need to plug an external source to it to interrupt the radio or CD audio and get the external one instead. Otherwise the audio will come from the factory unit.
It could have been wired to work on "Radio" or "CD". If the latter, you will need to have a CD silently playing for the external source to be heard.
That switch is for the fm modulator that is part of the aux most likely. Swap switch to where reception is bad and plug something into the aux jack. Start scanning fm channels until you here it
Pentavolvo got it! It is a FM modulator..while I'm glad that I can use my ipod now, Im quite bummed I'm limited to the quality of an FM modulator. Maybe I'll start looking into head unit upgrades
