Service Manuals

I've seen 2-volume service manuals with red covers, and 4-volume service manuals with purple covers. Is there a practical difference between them? TIA.

I'm no expert but i do believe different years have different colors and number of volumes.

My 04 FSM is red covered, 2 volume set

Most of the ones I see are 3 volume.

'99 = 3 volumes
'06 = 3 volumes

You probably answered you own question. Higher demand + few to go around = more expensive

My '03 set are red covered and has 3 volumes. I believe some of the C5 model years had different numbers of volumes than other years.

The ones I have found for 02 have had a disclaimer that they may not include the electrical schematics that the originals did so I have been holding off until I can find a set where that is included.

my 04 set has 2 books. I ordered mine from Ken Fitchner Chevy several years ago when they were under a $100. I think they're double that now

WOW, I got the 2 on the top as well, Never seen the purple ones.

The 2 OEM manuals are the size of 2 Manhattan phone books. I wonder if the purple ones are slimmed down and that's why they have 4 volumes. From the above picture they seem to look thinner.

There are also "preliminary manuals" which are not colored. That's what I got when I bought my '98.

Yeah, I dunno, those are just pics of manuals I found listed on eBay.

For what it's worth the ones I have for my '99 are 3 volumes, kind of a light beige color, and have the actual GM logo.
