Default 6M Shift Boot

My shift boot assembly is cracked so it never sits correct and will constantly pop out. Which got me to thinking: is there any purpose to keep it? Deflect heat from tranny into cockpit? Suggestions?

Your "shift boot assembly cracked"?

Be more specific. Do you mean the shift boot RETAINER? You can buy a new aftermarket retainer that solves that issue permanently.

The answer to your question is yes. Heat/dust/dirt/slow squirrels, etc.

Common issue. Cheap-azz GM approved plastic breaks if you even LOOK at it wrong.

It also cuts down more noise than you think. (If you're talking about the lower shift boot.)

Edit: Nevermind, I type too slow.

One of the (several) things I like about this is the ability to "form" it, or shape it, as needed to get it to conform to the correct shape of the console opening when doing the initial installation. Once the best shape is achieved, it still has just enough flexibility so removal and re-installation of the boot at a later time is very easy.
Easily one of THE best aftermarket items I have come across for C5s. Very well made.
