Default Normal running temp??

I don't know If I'm over paranoid or not but my c5z which is bone stock engine wise was running around 220-230 water temp in stop and go traffic and in the 190 degree range temps on the freeway cruising in 50'degree temperatures outside... Is this normal?? What running temperature should make me concerned?

C5's in Stock tune will usually run those temps while sitting at idle, because there is no air flow, and it's just baking in its own heat. The fans kick on at 226° on the stock tune. So that's about normal. In 110° heat of Texas summer I've seen 232 at idle, but went back to 218 when I started moving.

that is perfectly normal for a otherwise stock car..i know i freaked out when mine was stock and did that...

few pointers to look at on your car:
1: make sure you clean between your ac cond. and rad. c5's are bottom breathers and a lot of junk make's it way up there it easy to do and should only take a hour your 1st time....
2: make sure you have fresh fluid in your car...the dex cool can get rather corrosive and not work as well..best to change it out once a year a least to make sure you are in tip top shape

Thanks for the reply it freaks me out though seeing that temp fluctuate so much

Wonder if I should put a switch on the fans if that would help with the cooling, I started thinking more about is it knowing I have a front splitter on order also and eventually gonna do some motor mods

Yep perfectly normal in stop and go traffic. The fans start and stop and the temp rises and falls.

you can send your PCM into any of the supported vendors here on the forum and they can retune your PCM in which they will rework your fan and at what temp they come on at ..when i did mine after i installed my longtube headers and vararam intake setup i sent my PCM to East Coast Supercharging and they redid mine for the mods and other thing's...and i noticed a big difference in engine temps
