Default another ''tire and wheel'' thread

we have had wifes 2000 for ten years now and never put tires on it . we put ''michelin pilot sport as3'' on her 2004 vert after buying it with goodyear run flats a couple years ago . i read good thinks about the michelins and hankooks and price difference is significant . thoughts and/or suggestions please . also if i could get some nice wheels for about $1000 i would be tempted to do that as well . i would want ''shiny'' [chrome or polished] wheels not colored . i've looked at c5 thread ''nassau blue pics wanted'' and saw lots of wheels but nothing that screamed ''that's the wheel'' although there were a couple that would suffice . most wheels were not identified so i don't know what they were . lastly , is there a wheel company that you would recommend that sells in my price range and MORE IMPORTANT are there companies i should avoid . i did a search but it was really unsatisfactory , probably because i am old and unskilled on this darned machine . lastly again , be nice please , we have trouble burning even one tank of gas a year so don't need high speed tires , obviously . THANKS A BUNCH!!!!!

I would stay away from chrome even though I have chrome on mine. The problem is when the car sits it tends to gather moisture around the bead and the chrome starts to flake off causing the tire to leak. I had this issue with my 99 just a couple of weeks ago. My next wheels will be polished.

I tend to disagree. Chrome wheels, properly taken care of, will last a long time and are extremely easy to keep looking clean. Polished wheels, unless they are clearcoated, require much more labor to keep them in top shape. The chrome wheels on my '03 have been on the car since it was new (aftermarket C5 Z06 wheels) and they still look like new. No peeling are any other damage and the car sits quite a bit. Not saying you don't keep your wheels in good shape, but it's just that I've not experienced the problem you describe with chrome wheels and I've had a lot of them.

For the OP - I have Hankook Ventus V12 tires on my car and I have been very happy with them. All around good performance, very smooth/quiet ride and best of all, a set can be purchased for about $600. And many times Hankook has a rebate on them which reduces the cost even more.

As for the wheels, check with Bob at House of Wheels, Dennis at Double D Mods or maybe even WheelsforLess and see what they have in your price range. Cray makes some good looking wheels as does TSW.

thanks folks . looked at the wheel places on computer and some of the prices were very good but so many to choose from . was leaning toward the hankook tires and then stumbled upon a thread that they have changed recently and that poster no longer would recommend them although in next couple months i might once again find ten plus that do recommend them . i intended to do this in the spring so have plenty of ''time to fret'' . i am a pessimist and this sort of venture is very traumatic for me . . . peace

if i get wheels for the 2000 i need tire pressure monitors . i started looking at them and found quite a few different brands and prices . is one brand better than another and are there ones that are definitely to be avoided . are they complete or do i have to shop for more than the monitor itself . could also use a source recommendation . thanks . . . peace

Take a look at Amazon part#25981210. They had special pricing. Remember, the '99 & 2000 had diff tire pressure monitors ($$$). Good Luck!

I've had chrome rims on my 02 C5 since 03 and chrome rims on my 91 Eagle Talon since 93 and all still look brand new.

I'm no expert, but in doing my own research I have discovered the BFGoodrich G-Force Sport is a reasonable priced (not the cheapest) high quality tire. Around 8 bills a set.

wife has a 2004 vert just like that , other than the wheels . we bought it after selling her 1966 coupe which was stick shift and her knees didn't like the clutch at all .

You better get black wheels, no you better get chrome wheels...

How about you get what you like!!!

My singular beef about black wheels. I see many pics here and on other forums where black wheels get lost, you don't notice the detail like you do in person.

Good Luck & Enjoy the search!!

This pic. was taken in Dec. of 15, The wheels were put on in 09. they are as good as the day i put them on. I treat them the same as the body of the car. Zanio polish. If you would not use it on the body don't use it on the wheels.I never use chrome polish.

so here is where we stand today . stock size b f goodrich or continental tires with titan or schrader tpms . i like some cray wheels and some '' reproduction'' wheels . i'm not sure if i like the sprayed silver color wheels and hate to pay the price of chrome . i'm also concerned about the durability of the chrome on cray and the ''reproduction'' wheels . i'd like to see an example of each finish and have checked with recommended dealers in area and found zero examples . checked cray web site and found no info on their chrome plating . have no idea if the different sites i've seen with ''reproduction'' wheels are selling same wheels or if they are using ''reproduction '' in generic sense and not as a specific company name . ''reproduction'' prices are also scarily low . after all the help i've received i hate to ask for more comments , but i would appreciate any as i'm not the smartest guy on the forum by a long way . i'd like different wheels but have this feeling it's not going to happen . thanks yet again . . . peace...edit: the wheels on both red and blue vettes in thread are one of my two favorites labeled as ''reproduction'' and would like to know the source of them .
