The 2000 coupe I just bought came with a Magnaflow Performance exhaust. Haven't been under the car yet so I'm not sure if it's cat-back or axle-back. It is loud enough at speed that it's difficult to hear the radio or talk without shouting.
I'm considering removing and selling the Magnaflow but unsure about a replacement option. Corsa, Borla, etc. my minds not made up but I definitely don't want another set that is as loud.
Wow I have magnaflow exhaust on my other car (GTO) and even with headers it's only slightly loud when you get on it. My C5 has Flowmaster and it's way better than the magnaflow. A lot of people will agree that magnaflow isn't loud, maybe you got a freak setup.

Just about any aftermarket exhaust is most likely going to be louder. Certain ones will eliminate the drone at cruising speeds but, if you don't like the Magnaflow which is on the lower end of the loud spectrum you'd really hate a Corsa and at worst an SLP Loudmouth.
As good as some of the exhaust offerings are for the C5, it may not be for you. I would suggest going back to a stock system, which is a guaranteed quieter environment.
As someone else stated, most aftermarket C5 exhaust systems will be louder than stock. Maybe get a set of c5 z06 TI exhaust, great for the price and the sound will be better than stock. Idk how it will compare to maganflow though.
I have had the Magnaflow cat back with the X pipe for a year now, and I've never thought it was loud until I get on it. It has minimal drone and I love it. I chose it over the Corsa or Borla or BB's because of that, and I listened to them all on other vettes before I picked. My C3 had side pipes and was VERY loud to the point I didn't want to drive it, so I was very aware of how bad noise level and drone could get if I wasn't careful. p.s. I also happen to think the Magnaflow has the baddest sound of all the others too without any of that obnoxious rattle you hear in some. jmo.
I have Mid-Americas Quad Qruiser Exhaust has a louder deeper exhaust note than stock absolutely no drone at qruising speeds or any time. Looks very nice all stainless and will not brake the bank 899.00.

hmmm. I wonder if you're hearing drone and its not the exhaust sound...what model Mags do you have....
I have the 15713 and get drone just under or around 1500 rpms..
Oh, and I'm running XS Power headers in front of them....

I was thinking the same thing. My Magnaflows were not loud at all but the drone was horrible!
I second hitting up a Corvette meet up and listening to different setups.
My '98 came with a Magna Flows and I never liked the sound or the drone. I had a Corsa X pipe with sport mufflers installed during the summer of '14. Nice rumble at idle, quiet, no drone at cruise, sounds great when you get on it. Exhausts are very subjective. Good luck with your choice.
There is a set of C5 Z06 TI mufflers for sale near me, asking $300. Trouble is I have not heard what a stock C5 Z06 sounds like. I have read that the Z06 will be slightly louder....just need to figure-out if worth the drive (3 hrs round trip) and effort to install.
Are used C5 Z06 TI mufflers a quick sale, so I need to get them quickly or do I have time to check-out C5's around me?
I see them for sale frequently enough that I would wait to hear whats out there. Don't rush into anything you will regret or end up changing to something else that will just cost you more in the long run. Then, after all is said and done, put up an exhaust clip and let us hear it.
If you are going to test the sound harmonics, make sure you can get a ride in a car with an exhaust note that you like... problem with many exhausts is their drone at cruise speed. you need to get out on the highway at a sustained speed between 60 and 70 mph.. this is where drone is mots prevalent.. If you are hearing and feeling a harmonic vibration from the exhaust... this is an indication of drone at cruise.. this will turn into a head ache after about 20 minutes, and if a wife or GF is involved, most will not like that sound . AS a Married man with 50 years under my belt.. "I have a headache " is not something I want to hear from my wife .
BTW all exhaust for a C5 sound great at WOT.. but if the exhaust sounds really good at Idle, it will drone at cruise speed. you can't get all three parameters from any C5 exhaust.
I have Corsa Indy Pace car exhaust, they have a New name now. I've had them on the car for 14 years.. I still love the sound.

Today was my first time under the car. It appears to be axle-back and you're right . . . I noticed it's drone at around 70 mph. Don't know what model # though.
Pics of the cans can determine - mine have 2 pipes coming out of each to their own tip - the other Mag model has a single pipe from the can that then splits to 2 tips.
Your pic is of the stock H pipe you know that right?
I do have the XSPower X pipe on mine as well...although I still get drone as I said even with the X pipe around 1500 rpm...
I compensate for that by not driving in a gear that requires 1500 rpm(or speed)
