Default Need advice

Im getting ready to jump ship on a 01 C5 Z06. My problem is the Z has a Texas speed MS4 cam (big). The car drove great and and idled fine. The tune seems spot on to me. Then again I am no expert. It has a stock clutch and 19k on the clock. I personally have not seen the dyno but he claims 487rwhp/462rwtq.

Also has headers, exhaust, Xpipe, intake and upgraded Texas speed valve train. This will be my first Z. Seems like those dyno #'s are very high and too much for a stock motor and stock clutch?

In my opinion the stock cubes are being pushed at those numbers, and the stock clutch will not hold that torque for long(miles).

The numbers he's claiming are way too high for the setup the car has. If he had thrown some aftermarket heads on, it would be a different story. With that cam I would expect the horsepower to be in the 430 range, though I could be mistaken. The stock clutch should be OK at that level, but I understand your concern. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself will chime in shortly. Good luck.

Thank you for the response guys. Im new to the Vette scene but from the reading I've done, those numbers not only seem high for the mods, but also pushing the limits of the stock motor and clutch.

Does it have aftermarket heads, fast intake, the hp is possible if so but the tq is way too high normally around 420-440 with a 346 bottom end at those hp levels, if it's just cam and bolt ons and ls6 intake then probably anywhere from 400-430 rwhp

this is mine with heads, cam, fast 102 and the TQ is way lower

Yep those numbers are too high for stock heads but as long as it runs good and you like it that's all that matters you can always do some mods later too if you want that's part of the fun!

Plus it's low mileage sounds like a good car hope you enjoy it

seems high. I have stock everything engine wise, with a decent cam. I put down 415rwhp. Dyno could be off or it could have heads and the owner doesn't know. not sure.

RWHP? Hard to believe. If my car did those numbers on those mods I would have the dyno sheet laminated.

......to the OP, yes those numbers are too high for cam only. Ive seen a few MS4 cams done and one of the highest was 440. If he has some ported heads and a FAST, that number COULD be plausible. Even with that said, your average H/C/I car is 440-460 range. Somthin doesn't add up here

Like everyone else, I don't believe those numbers are realistic. If that were the case I believe he would have a framed and matted dyno sheet!

You can check out my mods in my profile and my dyno numbers if you wish, as a reference. I'm calling BS on the numbers he gave you. I have my dyno sheet to back mine up.

That being said, if you're happy with the way the car drove and looks, and the price is right for you, it's a very low mileage car that would be fun to own. IMHO

The real world # was 413rwhp. Usually the dyno sheet shows the rwhp not with the added DT loss.

So a chassis dyno gave out flywheel HP numbers? I've never seen it done like that before.

I have a much smaller cam and make 420rwhp/400rwtq with only LTs, CAI and pulley as supporting mods.

Sounds strange, but not necessarily a deal-breaker.

If i bought any modded car i would need to see reciepts and info of the shop that did the work. If the po doesnt have any paperwork walk away. Anyone who spends that kind of money on their vette for upgrades and doesnt have paperwork isnt someone i would want to buy my vette from. Also he should have dyno sheets as the car needed to be tuned. If everything is done right you should have no issues. But he would have needed to upgraded the valve springs also. You really need oaperwork showing everything trust me. And the fact that he states the numbers are that high would make me think the guy has zero clue about the car and make me even more lenient about the purchase.
