Being real New with the Corvette inter-workings I have been reading "stuff" to get familiar with it especially the various Electronics such as the BCM. I have a question regarding the Udders and Drain for the BCM and that is where are they located and what do the actually look like? How are they serviced? Any pictures or references would be helpful as I would guess that the previous Owner most likely never touched them much less service them. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s/thumbsup.gif
I don't remember if there are two on each side, the ones on the passenger side I had the panel off to get to the PCM (right front wheel opening) and it was easy access there. The drivers side I had the washer tank out and it was accessible from there. It's been since last winter so I am not completely certain on the drivers side ???
First there are no udders or drains for the BCM. The Body Control Module (BCM) is an electronic circuit board enclosed in an aluminum can. It is located in the passenger foot well behind the removeable toe kick. It can get wet if either the wiper well drains or the AC drain get plugged up and allow water to backup into the car.
The udders or drains are for the wiper wells on both sides of the car and for the AC Condensate drain. One large one on the passenger side wiper well and 3 smaller ones on the drivers side wiper well. A single AC drain located on the fire wall a little to the right of center of the car.
PS, with the access cover off on the pass. side it's a good time to check if you have battery leakage damage !!!!!
Totally agree with you on that. The area from what I can see looked clean however until like you say, pull the cover and now you know the rest of the story

The udders are quite easy to clean, and mine where packed solid with pine needles and dirt. I don't think the previous owner ever cleaned them. I was able to access the driver's side udder from above and didn't need to take off the access panel, but I did need to remove the access panel for the passenger side udder.

Top down view with battery removed.
Thank you for the pictures outlining where the Passenger side tube is and how to reach it. Only a guess but I will say this has not ever been cleaned out. SO far I do not see signs of moisture and the BCM area is very clean and dry. The weekend the weather is going to be Sunny and 50 so I will being doing this and other Maintenance.

If you end up pulling the battery/battery cradle, you should check the wiring harnesses directly underneath. At some point in my cars life the battery leaked and the acid ate through part of the harness and vacuum lines that run directly underneath that area. Good luck with the maintenance!

Early on, GM didn't use glass mat battery's just the standard battery. Over tightening the connection on the side of the battery caused a crack in the body of the battery allowing acid to slowly leak. This caused headaches for owners. When I got my 2000 the first thing I did when it was a week old was replace the battery with an Optima Red top. Never had any problem.
Looking at the 3 above pictures, what happened? It looks like the Battery exploded and Acid blew everywhere. If it did, what caused that to occur?
The batteries have had a tendency to crack, and a lot of forum members have gone with a jell filled battery.(Red Top) a few blame the Delco battery,(I have the original one in my 03 truck with 162,000) My theory is the battery in the vette in forced forward and backward and side to side,(because a vette is driven a little different than a normal car) And the battery mounted with a single bottom mount can't take the abuse and over time cracks !!!! I acid proofed mine !!!
AK, the problem was two fold, (1) lead/ acid standard battery used in early models, (2) the over tightening of the side post terminals from the factory. The reason people blamed the Delco was due to the cracked cases. Later years were using the new glass mat battery technology. I would think your battery in your truck is not a standard lead/ acid battery.

1/8 inch rubber from Amazon !!!
I LIKE this. Added to my expanding list of FUN things to do list. Almost looks like a Carbon Fiber matting.

I have it so if it leaks it will drain down past the frame,I did it mostly because when I bought the car the battery had just been replaced by the Dealer and I have had excellent experience with Delco !!!!!!

Just ordered this material from Amazon noting the other Mats were 1/4 and many complained it was too thick for the clamps to work. Also replacing the old Autozone Battery with Delco AGM 120 Reserve Battery. My real concerns was originally the drains as if they are plugged, water can find its way into the BCM but this is also a problematic issue too. Thanks again for the help
