Default My Passenger Side Headlight will not open

My passenger side headlight will not come up. This happened two weeks ago also. Two weeks ago I shut the lights off then turned them on again and they both came up. Last night the right one would not work at all.

Where should I start looking?

Does it make a Noise...Either the gear is Bad...Or The Motor..either way you have to remove it...I would check all the connections first and determine if the motor is working...Most likely the plastic gear is worn

To answer my own question, I'm pretty sure it's the plastic motor gear. How much in general is the repair?

Yes it makes a noise when closing for approximately 10 seconds

Well, if it's any encouragement, I have a '99 and still have my OE nylon gears. Recently rolled over 200K miles on the car.

One tip: I lubricate ALL pivot points once a year. A drop or two of motor oil using a small handheld pump. You can also purchase a small syringe for precision oiling at a number of AP stores or hobby/model shops. Same for the hood hinges while I'm there.

One other thing I will mention. The mechanism only uses 1/2 of the gear. If you open the light with the ****, remove the plastic surrond, (3-4 screws) remove the actuator arm. (One nut) Then it's just a matter of turning the **** till the actuator stud turns 180 degrees. Reinstall the arm and the surrond.

It only takes about 15 minutes. I did this last week. The light has worked ever since. (I drive every morning before light.)

Hey how are you doing? I'm sorry to see that you're having this problem, but luckily it's not a big deal.

It seems you probably have a broken plastic gear in the headlights.

Get a kit like this one (pay attention because there are 2 different kits: one for "97 to early 2000" and another for "late 2000 to 2004") and follow these step-by-step directions. You'll save money and they will last forever

You might need these as well (the rubber bump stops).

There is a TSB, that calls for shimming the driver's side motor. The parts needed for this are included in the above mentioned kit.

Thanks :-) I purchased two Brass gear kits today. One for each side. Might as well do them both. Be a nice project on a rainy day in FL in the garage.

You're welcome! There are several kits available to replace these plastic gears, but Rodney Dickman's is one of the best (if not the best and most complete one). Let us know how it goes!
