Default Emission Testing

Took my 6 week new to me '04 Vert to the emissions testing station on Friday. This is where the station connects via the OBD connector and examines some operating parameters....when they connected to mine I was told the car is "Not Ready For Testing" and to go drive and/or perform a "drive cycle."

Now I had the battery disconnected for couple of weeks as I was working on it and awaiting parts and all. But it was a 15-17 mile drive from house to station...which apparently whatever operating parameters the emissions station examines were not enough within the '04 Vert's computer.

Drove car home and had to disconnect the battery again as I had to remove the gauges again....did not get the connector fully seated and had no tach and keep getting the power-on calibration needle sweeps.

So took a bit longer drive this morning back to the emissions station and same thing..."Not Ready For Testing"....okay...went for a 40 minute drive across Tucson and returned and it was enough to pass with flying colors.

I did not know that disconnecting the battery would erase memory nor do I know just what parameters the emissions stations' computer was looking for.

Is this normal?
Does anyone happen to know what parameters were missing?

I still have to wait until one day next week to get title/registration but at least I have completed step 1....finally.

Until then back to sitting in the garage on an 85° weekend.....
