Default Tid-Bits

I been working on my car and thought I would share some tid-bits !!!!
1. This is a question, my car is 16 years old with 67,000 (17,000 the last two summers) I am replacing the brake hoses with steel braided and was amazed how easy the fittings loosened, have you guys had the same experience??

2. I have headaches all the time so when it comes to cleaning parts I don’t like using solvents. I decided to try my own, 5 gal. pail dump in some bleach, and some liquid laundry soap,(didn’t measure) fill half way with warm water !!!! I found it cleans really well and rinses with no residue, and cleans your hands at the same time !!!

3. Has been talk here on cleaning the engine, I have found spraying (fine mist) some Bleche-Wite over the parts you want to clean (cold engine) let it set for 15 or so minutes and then using a sprayer (fine mist) with water works well, mine was dry the next day and was cleaner than I thought it would be !!!!

4. To keep brake fluid from getting where I don’t want it I used some rubber vacuum caps to seal ends !!

Some of you most likely know this stuff or not ???? Thought I would share !!!!

I also replaced the factory rubber lines with braided lines a couple months ago on my '97. I remember the clip that hold the connection in place was a b**** to get loose, but the fittings turned pretty easily and only took a moderate effort to break free.

The bolt that holds the brake line in place at the caliper was another story, I felt like I was going to snap the bolt trying to loosen it.

As a Dealer Tech for many years you find a easy way of doing a lot of things !!!!! The hose bolt at the caliper put your wrench on it at a good position and smack the wrench with a rubber hammer !!!!! The clip I took the bracket off the car with the line still attached and put it in a vise, easy-pesy !!!!

I did not do the work ,but did have the brake lines changed to braided. My mechanic is a good friend so i was there when the work was done and it also was an easy swap. I think ZigZag meant he went OT with his comment, but I could be wrong. Fine job you got going on.
