Default Sinkhole

Who watched Americarna last night with Rey Everenham at the museum documenting the goriness of the sinkhole? Wow some of those cars came out of there looking like a pretzel.

When I lived in AL years ago I stopped in there on my way North when they had nothing - just a few cars in a temporary building - I saw what they had, bought a huggie, and moved on....

I did. Glad to see GM step up to the plate and fix the 1M car. Plan to see the museum and plant this fall.

I was at the museum early spring last year. At that time the sinkhole was still being worked on and was closed off by a glass structure that allowed patrons to look out into the gallery. Directly leading into the gallery was the black '62 that fell into the hole (it was mostly intact but extensively damaged). In the temporary gallery were all the other sink hole cars. The Blue Devil ZR1 was the only one restored at the time. The 2001 Mallet Hammer was the worst looking car. The only noticeable parts not mangled were the left front wheel and the driver's seat. All of the cars were well out in the open only partitioned off by waist height glass panels.

If you've never been inside of the museum there's a lot of interesting stuff there. C5 related they have a NHTSA crash test vehicle, a bare C5 chassis, and one of only two C5.R homologation street cars (basically the C5.R race car built for the street). They have other great Corvette cars there including a good deal of the mid-ship and CERV cars. One of the things I really liked was at the time they had a C6/7 test mule. It's a C6 with all the running gear for the '14 Stingray; a very interesting piece. There wasn't a whole lot of C7 stuff when I went other than cars getting museum delivery and memorabilia (I did buy a light blue C5 shirt to match my car; something that was like near impossible to find).

I watched it, made me feel sad for the guy who donated the 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06, That was an awesome car, but then again, they all are or they wouldn't be in the museum. Nice insight as what actually happened there.

While watching it I thought he was going to cry at a couple spots.... Lord knows I would have! It was a great program, and most likely will watch again.

I DVR'd it and hope to watch it sometime this weekend. My wife and I visited the museum last year about a month after the gallery had reopened. It is a very settling feeling to see all of the devastation that was caused by the sinkhole.
It's almost as if walking upon sacred ground when you visit.

Was thinking Hendrick was going to hand the Mallat owner the keys to the car after he drove it.

I had the same thought, I was actually surprised when he didn't.

So much for happy endings!
