Newby here waiting until Monday to get on a plane to southern Cal to hopefully buy my first corvette. Looking at a 2001 mag red manual coupe with 31k miles on it. If the car is as advertised I plan to drive it home to North Dakota. Been lurking here for about a year soaking up the knowledge that is available. Now is the time where everything is coming together to allow me to get a corvette, which I have wanted since I saw a new stingray as a young child in 1963.

Very nice. Hope all goes as planned. Welcome to the madness.
Welcome to the madness. But if you don't post pictures, it never happened. Have fun getting to know the car on the ride home. Be hard to keep the smile off your face!
Not sure of the details, but good luck.. codes can be hidden, and only history codes will show up. I would suggest a test drive, and then pull codes before finalizing the transaction.. it may be a hassle to walk away, but more of a hassle if you take the wrong car.

welcome to the forum officially
I hope it goes great. I too, am a first time Corvette owner. My opinion: anything can be fixed. It is only a matter of money and your plans for the car. I picked mine up just under two months ago. I have owned a fox body 5.0 Mustang (when I was 18), a Chevy 454 SS truck, a ten second 2000 Camaro, a hot rodded '08 Duramax Dually... The Corvette is a different animal. It is muscle with precision. It is (C5) the car that killed and took no prisoners in places like LeMans. You will love it. Congratulations!
Be prepared to be addicted! I have had a number of Corvettes over years past and always end up coming back. Now have a c5 which I, personally speaking, think are the most beautiful of all corvette generations. Best wishes and good luck with your purchase and have a fun and safe trip home! Mike P.
I flew from MI to TX to pick mine up. I can tell you first-hand it is VERY hard to be objective when inspecting your dream car...
But everyone's advice here is spot on. Please check the stickys at the top of the forum for things to look for on a C5. There is a buyer's checklist I got from Vetteman Jack that was a great help. Checking the codes is something that is a "must-do" as well. I'd print out a code list so you know what you are up against. Jot down whatever codes you have, test drive it, then check the codes again to see if they reappear. Some of them may have been thrown a long time ago but were never cleared.
The biggest advice I can give is to enjoy the crap out of your ride home should you choose to buy the car...that trip from TX to MI with my wife is one that I will never, ever forget!
I have been lurking here for a while but didn't join the forum until I was ready to make the move. I have read all the stickies and have been absorbing info for almost a year now.so the obsession is already well along.
