I'm replacing the tires on my 2001 convertible due to age. It only has 10,500 miles on it. The TPMS is still working and my tire guy suggested not replacing the sensors at this time and if they go dead all he has to do is break the outer beads and replace them. As I understand it C5 Z06s have the ability to use TPMS, but it is just disabled. So my question is if and when the sensors die can I just disable the function? No lectures about the benefits of TPMS please.

Not a lecture, but why would you want to disable a great feature on a pristine, low mileage '01 Convertible?

I would guess with a Tech II you could disable it, but someone with more knowledge about it than me will probably chime in.

^^^ Correct. With a Tech II the TPMS can be disabled as a programmable function. However, my understanding is that this is only on 2001-2004 cars (the years for the Z06) and is not possible to remove TPMS function from the BCM on pre-2001 cars. Since the OP has a 2001 there should not be an issue should a Tech II or someone with one secured.

No lecture here either as ultimately it's your car.
