Default nut for dash vent cover?

Noticed one the the 2 black nuts (1 on each end) of the dash vent is missing....is this something I can get, can I just unscrew the remaining one without it dropping to match up at a hardware store?

Thanks.

Are you talking about the center vent on top of the dash?

Those are sensors at each end, maybe one fell in to the dash, the vent just snaps into the opening.

Yes the one large center vent, there is a black nut or black cap for a nut on each end...I am missing one, just see the silver stud on one end.

Maybe what I think is a nut is a sensor? Should they be black on each end of vent cover?

So I can just pull up the cover?

Thanks.

I am not sure if all years have both sensors, but they just twist into the vent, pop out the vent and you will get a better idea. I do not have any photos, but check Ebay and you may find some photos of the vent or maybe the sensors for the vent.

And yes both are black. or have a black cover on them.

First, not all cars have anything in BOTH holes. Some cars may have one, or even NONE.
The sensors are for Twilight Sentinel and for Sun Load Sensor.

Second, the grill is just a press fit into it's opening and NO screws are used. Just pry up on the OUTER frame of the grill and it will easily come right up. DO NOT use the thin grill slots to pry on, as you WILL crack one. They are delicate. If you don't have a plastic trim removal tool already, then use a credit card as a lever to pry with. Again, DO NOT pry on, or force the grill bars themselves. Pry ONLY on the outer frame.

Once you get the grill up a little and out of the dash a bit, there will be either one or two sensors still attached to the grill with pigtails that go down into and behind the dash pad. Each of the sensors are of a "Insert-in-the-hole-and-twist" type of installation (some call it a "bayonet lock type design). Should be 1/4-turn to release it.
Caution: after releasing the sensor, be careful to not let it fall back down into the hole. I would advise having some tape ready (maybe 4" or 5") and wrap it around the pigtail to prevent it from dropping down behind the dash.
