I purchased a 2000 FRC a month ago with the skip shift still active. I thought maybe I'd get used to it but I'm growing more and more impatient with it. After a quick search, it seems there have been multiple resolutions for this issue. Can anyone recommend what they think is best? Just a "skip shift eliminator" is all I need? Any particular brand?
All you really need is a 2.2K ohm 1/2 watt resistor. I have found that these will eventually burn out, or at least in the case of my car.
My 2000 came with a CAGS eliminator but it never worked. I took apart the unit to find the resistor was burnt. $6 from Amazon later, I had a replacement soldered in and 9 spares left over
I like having the light on the dash still function. I wanted to be able to compare gas mileage of granny shifting when the car wants me to vs how I normally drive. Don't berate me for talking about gas mileage, this is my daily

I tried to drive through it and usually it didn't try to skip shift, however I found that when going slow (like a left turn at a light behind traffic) it would force 4th gear. Then it wouldn't accelerate well when I got the chance as traffic cleared. I will not put up with it.
I have gotten rid of the CAGS on all 6 of the 6 speed Corvettes I have had. It was the first mod I made to several.
I also was hesitant to by one mainly because it seemed like a pain to instal , eventualy i found one on ebay for $11.00 and it took about 5 minutes to install. now even a year and a half later every time it doesnt make you go to 4th you will be so glad you did it!!!!
I have the Compliance versions for the skip shift and column lock bypass for this car and for my previous Z06. Nice people to deal with and the products work.
Man I hated that retarded feature on GM's cars. I had mine shut off when I had it dyno tuned. But I think there is a wire/connector jumper mod to bypass it?

I'm retarded that's why we put that in there so we could avoid the gas guzzler tax...and save consumers a considerable amount money when purchasing their Corvette.
I find it always nice to come here and have members who brought this car ( C5 ) trash the guys who brought it to you.
From: "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and

The CAGS (Computer Assisted Gear Selection) has been a means to avoid the gas guzzler tax - successfully.....the first Corvette subject to it was the 2009-2013 ZR1. Its really just another example of advanced engineering, like it or not. It really is simple enough to drive around it.

Hey Bill, why was that needed to pass the gas guzzler tax? I've had the skip shift eliminator on my 02 for years and I still average 30 mpg on the freeway and 25 mpg around town. I've always wondered about that. What is considered over the line for the added tax? Thanks.
The eliminator was part of the package to insure compliance.... the car had to meet the spec before launch in 1997, so everything was done to effect this. A very high priority in the design phase other wise it would not hit our demographic... I compiled this so you could see the tax, and the criterial. plastic, parts light weight material, the use of sandwiched balsa was all part of the package. I've told the story of how the latches for the hatch compartments where already in production, but the weight team changed the covers to a balsa composite and the latches were already in production but didn't fit.. so extra labor was required to glue them in place.. the actual latch design has a snap in feature, which does not snap into anything after the rev was made to the lids.. this was done to reduce weight for the GGtax. Just another insider design tidbit, you wont find in any book... just like the double hinge on the console, which was specifically designed to keep the lid from popping completely open in a collision , this was designed in 1996 for launch to be pro active for a 2001 DOT requirement.
