Default Newbe Question

Does the ash tray door supposed to have a spring or something so the door stays open?
Referring to the actual ash tray, not the access door to the ash tray.

Thanks

When you open the outer lid (large lid), the ashtray has a spring on it and the lid to it opens too. So yes, there should be a spring on the lid. At least mine has one.

Well that answers that. I removed my ashtray so my garage door opener could tuck behind the door; great place for it.

Yes mine has. But I did find the spring that is used to flip it open when the ash tray door is opened was dislodged. Probably done on purpose to discourage use.

It's almost like the console, they're both there but you won't get much in either!

Or the drink holder... my ashtray area:

I don't use the center console, drink holder or ashtray except for hiding the garage door opener.

Okay, so now I know the ash tray door is missing its spring; so now I need a picture of where the spring is supposed to be.
For now I removed it as the door rattles a bit.

The drink holder door spring just recently broke and I have not removed the console (again) to do anything with it yet.

So any kind sole willing to take a picture of the ash tray door spring for me?

Well I just removed my ashtray for the first time and there is a spring on it. My garage door opener fits in there perfect. Thanks for the tip.

8VETTE7: thanks for the picture, simple spring but is missing from mine. The door hinge pin was loose when I got the car and so the spring is long gone.

And I think like others, I have no use for the ash tray so I will also put my garage door opener in this area.
