As for the button, the center console pig tail for the fuel door button can sometimes easily come lose... I know mine does if I am not a little careful putting it back in.

Do you hear any clicking noise when you push the button on the center console? If so? The plunger mechanism that projects out to release the door may be stuck and requires a good cleaning. If you hear the noise, PM me your e-mail address and I think I have a Word file that discusses how to clean and free up the plunger.
Mine was stuck as well....with the extension hose on a can of WD-40, i shot some into and onto the plunger going through the side of the gas cap opening and been working ever since

I have this same issue & started doing some research, turns out the part has now been discontinued & cannot be sourced from any GM parts websites. Given that this is a common problem that seems like it'll absolutely happen again I had a local dealer find one on the shelf for me from another dealer in PA. I am having it mailed to me in MA for $115
Little steep for such a small/simple part, but since I plan on keeping the car for a long time and given the part no longer exists I thought it would be wise to have a new one handy.
I plan on swapping the old stuck one w/ the new part & still trying to refurbish the old actuator as a backup for WHEN this happens again.
