im in the market for a 2002-2004 c5 corvette and im kinda confused. Did they make a base model in Manuel or do i have to get a z06?: crazy::crazy ::cra zy::c razy: Thanks For The Help Everyone
I think the FRC and ZO 6 only came manual, of course you are beyond the years for FRC !!!
FRC's ('99-'00) and Z06's ('01-'04) only came with the six speed option from the factory. There are manual coupes and verts from '02-'04, but there will be less to choose from. Automatics are just more popular. On a Corvette?! Why?!
There's a major discrepancy of FRC/Z06 cars compared to the targa fastback and convertibles.
While you were forced to get a manual transmission with an FRC/Z06, a good deal of buyers opted for the automatic on the other C5 models. It's simply a product of the Corvette market. I don't know the percentages off the top of my head but they are fairly low for each year of production, getting as low as the 20 percentile for some years and the highest percentile not eclipsing 35 percent of cars equipped with a manual.
if you're in the market for a non-Z06 2002-2004 car and you're having a hard time finding a manual it's simply due to how the cars were bought.
If you are in the market you can do a lot of armchair looking right on this forum under "C5's for Sale". New cars posted most any new day. Another good source for looking nationwide is "cargurus.com". Vettes from coast to coast for sale both by private sellers and dealers are listed there. There are numerous other sites, start looking and you can give yourself an education in whats available, what you should be paying for whatever year and model you're interested in, etc. Be sure to use this forum for questions before you buy. Lots of very well informed folks on this forum who will guide you and give of their knowledge, all just for the asking! C5's are wonderful cars, but, CHOOSE WISELY GRASSHOPPER!
Mt search for an 02-04 vert with manual trans and light color took a while but I eventually found one at a dealer about a mile from my home. Saw a ton with automatics, I figured it's because so many old folks live in Florida, wouldn't have one.
A sports car should have a manual in most cases. I live in Jax Bch Fl and the traffic is horrible fatiguing so I have the A4. In some areas the manual doesn't add much to the driving experience, plus I can have a cup of coffee and never miss a shift.

most dealers that move a lot of corvettes will say that sticks do not moev as quickly as a automatic will, in any state. I prefer a stick but it will cut down on your buying choices, plenty of old folks , as you call us can and do drive stick very well. To finish my thoughts, when was the last time you saw a stick shift vehicle in drivers education class? good luck in your quest to find the car you like, it will be worth effort when you find it...

Good point. We drive an '03 stick, its mainly my wife's car. She is 62 and I'm 67. C5 sticks were not as common and I always thought they would have a $$ premium or be more desirable, but if people don't know how to use one. . . .
Although, my wife is adamant that our next vette (looking to order a '17) will have a stick.

Cause some people shift gears all day and want to enjoy a nice powerful ride.
The Z06 c5 all come with manual trans. These are more rare because of the roof design on the z06 c5 only. Also z06 has 405 hp.! Standard c5 335 hp. plus 2004 model came with a carbonfiber hood.

Not exactly. Pre 2001 coupes and convertibles had 345hp, and after that 350hp.

I believe it was only the CE z06 in 2004 that came with the carbon fiber hood. The 2004 did have slightly better shocks though I believe?

The 2004 Z06 with the Z16 commemorative package in LeMans blue was the only car with the carbon fiber hood. It marked the first use of CF on a regular production car.
When the first C5 came out in 1997, it was a coupe only with the then new LS1. It was rated at 345hp and 345tq. When the LS6 came out in 2001, it was rated at 385hp.
In 2002 - due to changes in cam profile and a few other things, the manual LS1's became 350hp, 385tq, the auto LS1's were 350/350. The manual only LS6 went to 405/400. It remained that way through the end of the C5 model run.
