Default White Guage Overlays

I have a question about some white gauge overlays that I bought a couple of years ago and installed on my 2001 C5. When I got them I was kind of surprised that the white overlay was on a piece of plastic. I was OK with this except that there was a curve on all the overlays and they did not lay flat. That being said, the black plastic trim piece around each gauge holds the overlays flat or at least up to lately. It seems that the overlays on the speedometer and tachometer are now bowing in the middle near both needles and the needles are dragging thus causing them to stick. My questions are for anyone who has bought these overlays; I assume there is only one company that makes them with different companies actually selling them. Were your overlays bowed or did they lay flat when you bought them? If you installed them, have you had any trouble with the needles dragging over time? If you had this problem did you find a fix?

Thanks in advance for any help

Mine too. I think because of the curve of the plastic, the double sided adhesive has pulled loose. Did you notice a curve to them when you got them? I guess I'm asking to find out if the curve is normal or I got a defective set.

No mine were really flat, in fact the tape caused (thickness) mine to hit the needles and I took most of the tape off ?????

Wow, maybe I got a bad set! Guess I'll see if some other folks received flat ones or not.

Thanks!

I think lots of people change things for the sake of change..... Not a bad thing or a put down. Unless there is perfect placement, and a real factory look.. the chances of slight imperfection are possible.

Just my thoughts. to me overlays in white are Mopar and Ford inspired.. again not a put down... even after 17 years, I like the way they come from the factory.

Back in 1970, the only asthetic difference externally between a 1970 and 1971, was the color of the front turn signal lens. IN 1970 the lens was clear with an amber bulb. During the day the lens looked clear.
However in 1971, this lens was changed to an amber color, with a clear bulb. In 1971, there was a run on these amber lenses, to make your 1970 look like a 71. The amber colored lens was more asthetically appealing during the day.

Another notable was the "Kit : for the 1963 split window, to remove that old 1949 ******* look split window and make it look like the solid window 1964.... WE all know what a mistake that was. Yet hundreds of those kits were sold by Baldwin Motion in New York.

Just some CTI's from me.

You have a point Bill. I too like the original look even though I put in the overlays. I have pondered more than a few times about pulling them back out. I guess that's the beauty of an overlay; you can always go back to original! I originally put them in because I thought on a Speedway White C5 it would be something different. I get quite a few compliments on them but I have also had some people say they don't care for them. It's all in what you make of it and if it makes you happy, go for it.

Many here have added red or other colors to their interior, and I added the overlays because the interior was too black, everything black !!!! I like contrast to anything !!!!!!!!!!!

Your post is very interesting to me. Only because, many ponder the validation that others give. There are some points of interest to me as a student of body language.,

Many come here seeking validation for something they have done or are planning to do.

The problem is the feed back you get here is not always honest. Some will tell you what you want to hear..... some will outright lie to you, because they were taught to be nice...

IM one of those honesty type of people when it comes to feed back.

Here is where my interest in your post gets my attention.

Initially you bought the over lays... because you liked the modification from stock. You got feed back that some liked them, and also some that didn't like them. IM fairly sure that all those who didn't like them... didn't like them.
I am not as sure that all those who did like them , actually liked them...
many will just tell you what you want to hear.

I can tell by your comments that, feedback from others is important to you, and at this point you are a bit on the fence about whether you like them or don't.

when I buy anything, and there are reviews attached... I always look at the negative reviews, because I think they are the more honest ones..
IO could care less if someone bitches about speed of delivery, but I do care about technical feed back. I don't want to ready that people are having problems with the part itself, or that some are " living with " the inconvenience, etc.

Once I make up my mind about a purchase, I could care less what anyone else thinks.. My point, the negative feedback helps me to decide whether or not I want to chance a bad choice that has effected others.

You can always come to me for an Honest opinion. Not sure that is the case on this forum with too many people,.., when it comes to opinion, I value honesty over sugar coating, any day.

Bill aka ET,

be careful what you ask for from me. LOL
